Rolling into June in 2nd place is an astounding achievement by everyone that supported this fundraiser.

Hoping for a podium finish on Sunday!!

By promising that my level 2 trainees on Tuesday and my level 3 apprentices today that they could go home early if they made a donation to the fundraiser, we have passed the £2000 mark and pushed our way into 3rd place for UK fundraisers. So proud of all my students. Especially the ones tomorrow that will be donating for an early finish ticket.

The SKEG skeg

Over £300 has been raised through the sale of the innovative Sea Kayak Emergency Gear replacement skeg.
This is a very simple and effective bit of kit when it comes to broken or missing skegs or twisted ropes and kinked wires.
What happens when your skeg, or someone else's breaks when you are desperately trying to keep a straight line in a following wind?
You can try and maintain an edge for what seems like an eternity, you can set up a towing system or anchor tow which puts unnecessary pressure on other paddlers, you can exhaust yourself by extending your paddle strokes on one side to compensate for the boat getting blown one way and you aiming for another........
Or, you can whip out the SKEG-skeg from your day hatch.
Within seconds, this can be easily fitted by another paddler to your stricken vessel. This lightweight, durable and highly visible device can be put in place with both paddlers staying upright, dry and in their boats. It is constructed from the same materials used in Police riot shields. A strong, bright orange 5mm bungee ensure maximum visibility when installing. Easy to read instructions on the SKEG-skeg ensures the operator, even when under pressure of high winds and heavy seas, knows exactly what orientation it should be for fitting.
This awesome bit of kit has been endorsed by Belfast Kayak Club legends such as Trevor Coulter, Patricia Scovell and Greg Miller and can be yours for a suggested minimum donation of £20 towards the RNLI fundraiser. if you think it is worth more, then pay more 😁

Donaghadee Trent Class Lifeboat meet

Donaghadee Lifeboat

1d ·
🌊🚣‍♂️ This morning, our volunteer crew were out training as part of their regular exercise programme when they had the pleasure of rendezvousing with members of the Belfast Kayak Club at Portavoe Beach.
The club are currently taking part in the RNLI’s Mayday Mile fundraising challenge, helping to raise vital funds that support RNLI lifesaving services around our coasts. 💙
Every launch, training exercise, piece of equipment and lifesaving rescue is only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters and fundraisers like these. The dedication shown by everyone taking part in the Mayday Mile really does make a difference and helps ensure our volunteer crews are always ready to answer the call.
A huge thank you to Belfast Kayak Club for their support, enthusiasm and fundraising efforts — it is greatly appreciated by all at Donaghadee RNLI. 👏

Portaferry Lifeboat at Killyleagh

Our Tuesday evening paddle started off with a very exciting meeting with the Portaferry lifeboat at Killyleagh Sailing Club pontoon. We were very proud to announce that we had met our target of £1000 that evening. A quick chat, few videos (massive thanks to Jonathon and Billy) and photos rafting up with Blue Peter V, exchange of gifts and said our goodbyes. Off to Salt Island for a quick break and to watch the sunset. Happy Days.

BKC and Portaferry Lifeboat

Lifeboat meet and greet

We have almost hit our target of £1000 and we are only 4 days into May. So proud of our club. Tomorrow nights paddle should be exciting as we are hopefully meeting up with Portaferry lifeboat at Killyleagh harbour for a quick chat and photoshoot.

BKC kit donations

The Belfast Kayak Club committee has very kindly agreed to donate all money raised from kit hire during the month of May to the Mayday Mile fundraiser.

I know it is early days but we are currently sitting pretty as the 4th placed team in the UK for donations. Here's hoping for a podium finish come the end of May!!

BKC AGM

Well received at tonight's AGM. Optimistic for a great Team total.

We're taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, we're completing a mile a day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble by the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor our RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

Thank you to our Sponsors
