I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Arbroath RNLI & the Finish Line

Tuesday 28th May
Today I crossed the finish line on my walk. Over the course of May, I've walked 31miles. At only 3yrs old, 31miles is quite something! I've had a lot of fun this month to meet my miles. I've walked to or from nursery, we went camping to do two of the lifeboat stations, we've walked along to parks, we've walked along to a Duck Race, we went for an adventure to Corrie Fee for a hike and spent lots of time walking the dog. I've visited 6 lifeboat stations through the month and finished at Arbroath RNLI where my love of lifeboats began! The lovely Peter showed us around the station and we saw the two boats there, including their new B class lifeboat. I even got a certificate and Peter gave me a pin badge of my favourite yellow wellies 💛🛟

Stonehaven RNLI

Sunday 19th May
Honestly, cannot give high enough thanks to all the crew at RNLI Stonehaven We initially planned to visit yesterday however when I got in touch, they told us that Sunday morning was training so if we could make it up, Finlay would be able to take a look around and meet the crew. Well, meet the crew and all the rest! The crew were out on the water for training when we arrived so we took a look around their office and saw the all important wellies and helmets. We saw them packing their life jackets and Finlay snaffled a wee biscuit from the raining crew 😂 We then walked round to the boathouse where the tractor that takes the boat out to water was. We certainly never expected for Finlay to be invited for a ride into the water! The boat was due in from its exercise in around 15mins so we decided to take a wander along the harbour to see the boat come in. Can honestly say I've not seen that much excitement from Finlay in a long time! Finlay tried one of the crews helmets on while the boat was refuelled before he got to get on board and take a look around! Think he felt quite at home at the helm! Honestly an incredible morning and could not say thank you enough to all of the incredibly kind crew for taking the time to show us around and quite literally make Finlay's month!

Corrie Fee

Saturday 18th May
Today was a beautiful sunny day so we went up to Corrie Fee, somewhere Mum and Dad haven't visited since before Covid. This was a fiver miler through the beautiful glens, opening out to the beautiful Corrie Fee where a glacier carved a path through the hills many moons ago! I spent most of the time ignoring the beautiful scenery and instead looking at bugs, flowers and pinecones 😂 5 miles is quite a walk for my little legs so the walk took much longer than expected but I managed to cover 2.5miles of it myself with Daddy carrying me on his shoulders for the rest. We had a picnic at the end and had a paddle in the river to cool off leaving just before the rain hit! The clouds definitely helped things cool down though! ☀️

Kinghorn

Sunday 12th May
After our night in the tent (very enjoyable, I turfed Mum off her bed and made her sleep on mine) we had breakfast and had a walk around the walled garden at the caravan. There was a fairy trail and I saw another squirrel! We then packed up and took a drive down to Kinghorn. We took a walk down the hill towards the beach and I enjoyed walked Jess along the beach and getting my feet wet as I threw the stick for her. After that, we walked up to the lifeboat station where Scott very kindly took us on a tour of the station! We saw their boat and the tractor they use to launch the boat into the water, got to see all their dry suits and wellies, and even got up to the operations room where we saw the view out over the Forth and all of their maps. Another (official) 1.5miles in the bank (mum reckons I've done an extra 2 just running around the campsite and beach 😂) and we've also now reached half way on our miles 💪🏼

Anstruther

Saturday 11th May
Another day and another life boat station crossed off the list. Today we visited Anstruther where we visited the life boat station (and more importantly, the shop 😁). They had they're big new lifeboat out on display so we got to see that before we took a walk to the lighthouse at the harbour entrance and along the beach. Of course we had to stop for some ice cream too! We then traveled along the coast to Leven where we've set up camp for the night. After a chippy supper and saying hi to some local squirrels, I've stayed way up past my bedtime and it's definitely time for some sleep!

Broughty Ferry

Tuesday 7th May
Today me and Dad went down to Broughty Ferry. We took a wee wander along the front and saw the new active travel path, visited the life boat station and got a picture with their resident statues, and spent some time 'skimming' stones on the water

Barry Mill Duck Race

Sunday 5th May
Today we parked up and walked to Barry Mill for their annual duck race 🦆 There and back we covered 1.5miles as well as some wandering around the course and the lovely stalls ❤️ A lovely few hours out

Montrose Lifeboat Station

Saturday 4th May
Today we walked 2 miles visiting the Lifeboat station in Montrose! We went to see the Bamse station and walked along to the lifeboat station where a very kind crew member let us inside to see the boat! I even got a shot in the boat! We then walked along to my Auntie Jess' and went for a trip to the park before walking all the way back to the car via the lifeboat again!

Day One

Wednesday 1st May
Our first day today, and of course it would fall on a day I'm at nursery! So we decided that we'd get up and walk Jess before getting dropped off. I took Finley Bear with me, and we walked down by the river. We saw a duck and I got a little upset that the duck didn't want to come say hi but with a bit of encouragement Mum managed to get me to keep moving. Before long we reached the halfway point and played with Jess throwing her ball in the water....until she didn't see where I threw it and the ball floated away. Oops! Day One and 1.5miles in the bag 💪🏼

Lifeboat Surprise!

Monday 8th Apr
Today Daddy took me down to the lifeboats to have a look around the shop. But the shop was closed (yay for saving Daddy's pennies! 😂) But as we were at the lifeboat station, one of the crew asked if I wanted to see a lifeboat!! And even better, I got to sit in it and see all of the controls! I was so excited! I loved seeing all the yellow wellies lined up too and was super happy when I told Mum about it. Huge thank you to Broughty Ferry RNLI - so very kind!

Postie Arrived!

Friday 5th Apr
This morning my top for my mayday mile challenge arrived!! Mum also popped to the RNLI shop and picked up a bear to come on my walks with me to get lots of photos!

Planning my Walks

Tuesday 2nd Apr
It's been a rainy day today so Mum and Dad have spent some time looking at walks for me to do and working out the distance!
I love spending time at the harbour looking at the boats and the lifeboat so I'm looking forward to my challenge!
