I’m swimming a mile a day, every day, for a month to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I am attempting to swim a mile-a-day for the whole month to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

As an island nation, we flock to the beaches every summer to make the most of the glorious weather. What many of us don't realise is that there are men and women dedicating their time and skill to rescuing those who get in trouble and bringing them safely home to their loved ones.

By undertaking a personal challenge and commitment to try and swim a mile each day for the month of May I hope to raise awareness (and money!) for these amazing people. A mile a day is equivalent to 64 lengths of a regular 25m swimming pool... this means I will be swimming 1,984 length in May!!! Wish me luck but more importantly, please encourage me by donating your money to them. Your sponsorship can make a real, lifesaving difference by helping provide volunteers with everything they need to rescue those finding themselves in trouble

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support these courageous crews?

My Updates

I did my bit!!

Saturday 31st May
Thank you everyone for your support!!! I did what I set out to do and you ‘enabled’ my suffering! Still time to chip in for a great cause if you were waiting to make sure I didn’t drown! .. I didn’t, but will definitely stay away from water for the next few days! 🏊‍♀️😖
Can we make it to £1,500?

I can almost see the finish line..

Thursday 29th May
Almost there!! 2 more to go, still not fit to handle this every day. Managing the distance and improving my time, but feeling exhausted every day.
Thanks to everyone cheering and supporting the cause!!!

My Private Pool!

Wednesday 21st May
Today I had the luxury of a pool to myself with not one, but two lifeguards. I was in Stirling for work and so got to use the beautiful Stirling University pool. A lovely swim with the sun's rays shining through the roof, bathing the water in dappled light. A truly lovely swim!

Extra laps and half way !!!

Thursday 15th May
I hadn’t thought about days when I can’t hit the pool.. this Friday is one of those.. so decided to skip one mile into three days and add it to my daily mile .. sounded a bit easier than the reality.. I am done and looking forward to a day without water.. today, third day of 1.4 miles was painful from lap one to lap 42.. hated it all the way.. but no more bubbles until Saturday!
The best part: I’m half way there!!!! Day 15!!

Jumped the wall

Thursday 15th May
Date ten felt like finally my body realised there was no other option but to cooperate for the rest of this madness.
If I had a good night, I need a few laps to get the achey muscles moving and then get the mind in gear for the next 45 min.. it feels doable ..

10 days in

Thursday 15th May
Every single day of the first week felt like there was no way to succeed in this challenge. Tiredness was with me from opening my eyes (5am) to closing them (8:30pm) and  the fight during the day to not fall asleep on my computer was hard.

Three days in, three miles in and over £1000!!!!!!!!

Saturday 3rd May
Fighting the tiredness from the day before is the hardest thing when facing the first 10m every morning... but then I think of what you all have done and pushes  me to do my bit .. forget the achey neck and sore shoulders and keep blowing bubbles!

Panic! First day of pain tomorrow!!

Wednesday 30th Apr
All washed and ready to go. I have been doing my 'warm up' swims for the past three days... already feeling the pain and they're not even 'official' swims yet! Was this a bad idea?? Too late to back out now! Wish me luck!

Try not to drown for 31 days

Sunday 27th Apr
The RNLI relies mostly on volunteers bringing people home safe when they find themselves in trouble at sea. As someone that enjoys swimming, loves the sea (although lacks the sea legs), and tries not to get in trouble, I am fortunate to have never found myself needing their help and hope to never need it, but I have huge admiration for their dedication and the work the do as volunteers! I want to make people aware of all that they do and ask for your help to support their magnificent work!
I will be swimming a mile a day (equivalent to 64 length of a 25 meter pool) for 31 days starting on the 1 May and would like ask if you would sponsor me? How about a pound a mile? This is a massive challenge for me, but doesn't compare to the incredible work of the men and women of the RNLI. Please encourage me with your donation to this lifesaving cause.

Thank you to my Sponsors
