I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

That's it folks

Tuesday 4th Jun
It's all over...and thank you so much to everyone who has generously sponsored me. It's been great to have this challenge and a reason to get out walking. It's also given me a kick start to hopefully carry on walking every day (even if it's not a mile!). The most exciting thing for me though is that I'll actually receive a medal, I've never had one of those, woohoo 💪😅🤣🤣👍

End of the month horizon

Thursday 30th May
Well look at this, the end of May is literally just around the corner, the end is in sight...hooray and thank you so much guys for your support and encouragement.
As you can see I've walked more than the required 31 miles which is surprising and fantastic. What has also surprised me is how sometimes a mile seems so far then sometimes so short, I think circular rather than linear is the secret 😁
Anyway tomorrow is the last day of May and so officially the last day of this challenge, what a great journey 👍

Bergen, Norway 🇳🇴

Thursday 23rd May
I clocked up 5 miles in Bergen on these beautiful cobbled streets, it was very hot and hilly 🥵

Post Holiday

Tuesday 21st May
What an amazing time on holiday, we went on a cruise to Norway and it was spectacular and amazingly hot 24-26°!
You'll be pleased to know I did my walking challenge and exceded my 1 mile a day a few times (they're big those cruise ships!). Obviously many of my oloday walks were in spectacular scenery, mountains, lakes, fjords and a beautiful ship 😊
Well this is my first day back at work so I guess back to my boring 1 mile walks around the industrial estate now ☹️

It's Friday!

Friday 10th May
Woohoo it's Friday and I now have a week's holiday, fantastic. I can't wait to get up when I want, go where I want and not do anything if I want...heaven 😁
It has been amazing weather this week and some of my midday walks have been a bit warm 🥵
As I intend to carry on walking after this challenge and with summer coming it would be sensible to re-schedule my walking activity to the evenings.
A shame in a way as I'm sure a lunchtime/midday walk gets my energy up and makes me a more alert driver in the afternoon...and as you know this world needs lerts!!!

Another week

Wednesday 8th May
Hello all, so another week another few miles. Pleased to say I've now walked half of my target distance BUT more importantly than that you incredible people have raised more than £150...amazing!
I'm hoping next week to post some beautiful images of my walk as we are on holiday in Norway. NOT a walking holiday (be sensible!) but a cruise and apparently 3 times around the deck is 1 mile, see I've checked it out already 😁

Bank Holiday weekend

Monday 6th May
What a beautiful Bank Holiday weekend, the weather was gorgeous, my nose got burnt, we washed the boat and I had a glorious lazy time reading a book and drinking wine😁
Of course I still walked my mile each day and the scenery much better than an industrial estate.
Unfortunately I was working again on the Monday evening but managed to find a nice long leafy layby and did three circuits to make up my mile 😊 it's always good to have an excuse to stretch the legs!!
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend too and enjoyed the  sunshine xxx

Woohoo!

Friday 3rd May
Amazing, amazing, amazing.. thank you guys for sponsoring me. It's day three and with your generous and kind support my £125 target has been reached...woohoo!!!
Obviously I'm still going to walk a mile everyday for the rest of the month (honest) So if anyone else would like to sponsor me that would be fantastic 😁
It's a bit wet out there today but very apt considering this is all for RNLI! 😅🤣😂

Sponsoring update

Thursday 2nd May
I contacted RNLI today to see why some people are having difficulty sponsoring with the link I sent.
They didn't come up with any definitive answer but did say, if you Google RNLI Mayday Mile then search my name it will take you to my page and that donate button should work.
This all seems weird to me because if you're reading this you must be on my page anyway?!
Hey ho, whatever, I'm still going to carry on walking my mile a day and just hope that your perseverance and technical financial skills get through this very annoying bug 😁💪🚶‍♀️🫶

Mayday Eve

Tuesday 30th Apr
Last day of April before the proper start tomorrow 1st May and instead of walking around the boring industrial estate I was working in a much more inspiring place today for my walk. We went to Snettisham Park Farm near Sandringham and it was wonderful, sunny and peaceful with lambs, kids, donkeys, alpacas and loads of other friendly  and smelly animals 😁
Thats it my warm ups finished and it all starts proper tomorrow xxx

I've Started

Saturday 27th Apr
I've been a bit distracted and quiet as I started a new job last week...but now I'm on it.
I started walking in my lunch hour just to see how far a mile is and how long it takes.
I am so unused to walking I actually had no idea! Thankfully it's shorter and quicker than I thought 😁
At the moment no inspiring images to share as it's just an industrial estate but I'm hoping prettier places will be available in the next month.
Thank you to those who have generously donated so far, however, it seems some have thought they've donated but nothing has come through. I will resend the link and hope this solves whatever issue it is...not being a pushy pest...honest!😉

Start

Friday 12th Apr
In the last few months I've been determined to move a bit more (not difficult a mollusc moves more!). So I thought this challenge would be a great incentive 😁
RNLI seems to be following me around recently it was my Dad's charity of choice (serving in the Navy 35yrs) and we recently added his name to a RNLI Shannnon class lifeboat with Launch A Memory (RIP Dad).
Being brought up by the sea and now living on a boat I have an affinity and respect to any and all stretches of water...it's awesome and must be respected. Therefore the people who work on the sea should also be respected...RNLI crews do amazing work, all voluntarily and without them where would we be?
Blimey I'm getting a bit emosh now!😭
