We're taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, we're completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea, whilst keeping ourselves active & healthy πŸ’ͺ🏽

We are very thankful for the hard work and commitment of all who volunteer for the RNLI and want to take on this challenge as an opportunity to support them whilst also establishing healthy habits at home and making sure we get moving every day!

How we achieve our mile(s) will look different each day throughout May. We will join together for a walk or a cycle after school (& at the weekends) and other daysΒ we will walk/run laps of our playing field whilst at school. Our mummy willΒ walk with our little brother in the pushchair/carrier every day and some evenings sheΒ will run a mile by herself (she doesn't run...so even just 1 mile is a challenge!!).Β

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

Day Thirty-one

Friday 31st May
Dry & sunny! We made up the distance by walking around Lanhydrock with daddy today, it was lovely. It's been interesting taking notice of how quickly you've walked a mile when you just go out for the day exploring with kids! Our last Mayday Mile!! πŸŽ‰ Can't believe May has passed already. Β£335 raised for the RNLI πŸ›Ÿ!! 54 miles walked/run. Such a great result. I honestly didn't think we were even going to reach the goal, let alone exceed it. Thankyou!! We're very grateful for your donations, meaning we can support their important work and the kids can be proud of themselves for helping a great cause. I'm so chuffed that we've stuck to it every day and the kids have had such a great attitude. They want to carry on..! πŸ™ŒπŸ½ That's a result too... forming healthy habits and a positive mindset πŸ’ͺ🏽🧠

Day Thirty

Thursday 30th May
Dry, mild, cloudy. A longer walk this evening up from home to drop off a birthday bouquet and cards to the children's Auntie. We've had a day of walking today, so our legs started feeling it a little by the time we got back!

Day Twenty-nine

Wednesday 29th May
Dry, cloudy, mild. We headed out for our mile after tea this evening. Our quickest one 'cause baby bro cried the entire time πŸ₯΄ Home to get him to bed whilst the big kids stay up to watch a film.

Day Twenty-eight

Tuesday 28th May
Drizzly showers, mild. After a day consisting of footy, café stops, garden centre musing and pasties with granny, we decided to fit in our walk before swimming lessons this evening. This has been mummy's town for over 30 years and she's never ventured up to the top of the park... 😳 so we went to explore and played follow the leader along the paths before stopping for a play on the swings once we'd reached a mile of walking. Lovely!

Day Twenty-seven

Monday 27th May
Dry, sunny, windy. We headed over to the coast this morning and walked two miles along the clifftop and coast path. It was lovely weather, if not a tad blowy! Baby bro happily snoozed in the carrier, whilst big bro & big sis aggravated and whinged a fair amount and mummy and daddy slowly lost the will... 😬πŸ€ͺ It was one of those mornings... But the scenery was beautiful! And we came home to warm sunshine, footy in the garden and time with family (and a new puppy). All's well. For now. πŸ˜‰

Day Twenty-six

Sunday 26th May
Dry, breezy, fresh. We headed out with full tummys from our tea and an afternoon at Granny's πŸ™Š It was good to get some fresh air even if we didn't feel much like moving!

Day Twenty-five

Saturday 25th May
Mostly dry, just caught a shower near the end. The usual route, but with friends this evening! We headed out for a much-needed walk after too much pizza & cheesecake πŸ™Š. Babies in the carrier/pushchair, children running/ walking/ biking/ scootering, fern leaf fights, stinging nettles to mummy's face...children shoved in hedges!! A little more eventful than usual!

Day Twenty-four

Friday 24th May
Light drizzle, mild. The same mile from home, this time it started drizzling lightly. It's the best smell this time of year! Mummy walked with baby bro in the carrier whilst the older two ran. Big sis was flying along, running really well and motivated to keep going... Big bro's mouth was moving faster than his legs tonight!

Day Twenty-three

Thursday 23rd May
Dry, cloudy, mild. The usual mile up the road from home before bed tonight. Nothing v interesting to report other than.. we're still going! Like I've said before, one mile a day isn't challenging in itself but consistency (in anything) can be, so I'm chuffed that the kids are still happy sticking to it. Big sis and mummy had a meaningful chat most of the way with little bro listening in in the carrier and big bro running ahead!

Day Twenty-two

Wednesday 22nd May
Dry, mild... dodged the rain again! πŸ’ͺ🏽 Mummy & big bro walked a mile straight from school today whilst big sis was at a club, with little bro in the carrier. We took it steady, ambling along for half an hour whilst talking about our most enjoyable/ challenging/ frustrating/ funny bits of our days and taking turns of 'guess the animal'. After tea, mummy and big sis left the boys at home and ran the loop, taking three short walking breaks but running the majority for ten minutes!

Day Twenty-one

Tuesday 21st May
Dry, sunny, warm! Another beautiful day and busy evening, so we all got out for a stroll before bed again with daddy too. Same route as yesterday but backwards (the route, not us) making it a little more challenging with a steeper hill at the end. More flower picking, sticky willy sticking, spotting neighbours horses, accidentally putting hands in bird poo πŸ’©, timed runs, squabbling children and exasperated parents! πŸ˜…

Day Twenty

Monday 20th May
Dry, sunny & warm 🌞 A cracking day today and all feeling a bit hot & worn out so we enjoyed a slow amble around the hamlet before bed, once it had started to cool down. Mummy carrying baby bro, picking flowers, sporadic running from big bro, silly conversation and topped off with a game of swing ball in the garden. Mummy also walked 2.5 miles with baby bro in the pushchair this morning, so we're adding that to our mileage for the day!

Day Nineteen

Sunday 19th May
Dry, sunny, warm. A lovely Sunday stroll this afternoon with our cousins, Auntie and Granny! We walked around a local playing field, beside a river and along some back lanes. So beautiful this time of year!

Day Eighteen

Saturday 18th May
We've walked twice today in very different weathers! First up was a half mile walk around Devoran Quay. Our first time there and it was so beautiful, warm and sunny. We met our daddy after he'd run the distance of a half marathon from Portreath on the North Coast to Devoran on the South. Then this evening once home we walked our usual mile jant up the road...in the rain! Still warm though and we didn't really mind getting wet.

Day Seventeen

Friday 17th May
Dry, sunny, warm. Another straightforward mile up the road before tea tonight. Little bro in the pushchair/being carried, big sis collecting hedgerow flowers and big bro running ahead of us! End of the week and all tired from school/clubs/parenting & lack of sleep! But still lovely to get out and enjoy the weather 🌞

Day Sixteen

Thursday 16th May
Dry, mild. We walked our mile in two stints today, so although it says two, really it's one. The boys and mummy walked the loop after footy whilst big sis was at youth club with her friends. She then walked up the road with daddy and little bro in the carrier before bed, and just before the heavy rain came! We've been very fortunate with the weather so far.

Day Fifteen

Wednesday 15th May
Dry, chilly breeze, light drizzle. Much like yesterday, the kids and I walked the mile loop around our hamlet straight from after-school club and then I went out to run a mile once they were all in bed. Think I went too soon after eating tea though, as I got a bit of stitch and my legs felt heavier (probably from yesterday's run, not the food.. πŸ˜‚).

Day Fourteen

Tuesday 14th May
Dry, windy, chilly. The kids and I walked our mile before bed this evening with little bro in the buggy (they actually ran some of it too), but I didn't realise that my phone had stopped recording our route. So once the kids were all asleep I went back out and ran it! Two weeks in and my first run 🀭 I stopped for a quick breather 3 times which I felt wasn't too bad as I never run! Bit embarrassed at my lack of fitness, but you've gotta start somewhere...and 6 months postpartum, I finally feel like I'm starting to get stronger again.

Day Thirteen

Monday 13th May
Wet, breezy, mild. Nearly two weeks in and this was our first wet walk - not bad going! It was also the first one met with tears and protest...however it didn't last long as it gave another opportunity to remind ourselves of why we're doing this. So we set off straight from school in our coats, with baby bro in the pushchair. We chatted about lifeguards going out on call in rough, sometimes scary weather and having to do hard things when we don't feel like it. Walking one mile isn't challenging in itself but having the discipline to do good things consistently, every day, can be. Even more so when it's something we don't enjoy! This is what I hope the children (and mummy!) will take from this challenge, as well as building healthy habits to stay active and of course supporting the important work of the RNLI πŸ›Ÿ

Day Twelve

Sunday 12th May
Dry, sunny, v. warm! 🌞 We were going to head to the coast for a ramble this afternoon but on our way, saw the fog rolling in. So instead, we stopped for an impromptu roast dinner before heading home for a jant. It seemed as though we were in the last pocket of sunshine as we could see fog and heavy clouds all around in the distance. Making the most of the glorious weather, we took a little detour down to a large pond on a neighbour's land where we stopped and enjoyed the peace and sound of birdies. Little bro loved watching the water.

Day Eleven

Saturday 11th May
Dry, sunny, warm. After another busy day and getting home at 7pm, none of us particularly felt like going for a walk...but we did! So again, just the one mile, but it's consistency that counts! And the beautiful weather helped 🌞

Day Ten

Friday 10th May
We enjoyed another later walk again this evening, once it had cooled down a bit. Just the one mile after a busier few days. Looking forward to a longer walk & explore soon!

Day Nine

Thursday 9th May
Just the one mile again today after an evening on the beach. It was lush to all get out together for a walk in the dusk, smelling silage and watching bats flying overhead as the light dimmed. Even our cat joined us for the stroll!

Day Eight

Wednesday 8th May
Dry, sunny, warm. More of an amble this afternoon following after-school club. We were all feeling a bit low on energy! But it was pleasant nonetheless.

Day Seven

Tuesday 7th May
Dry, cloudy, gentle breeze, mild. Up & out the door first thing this morning. We've a busy evening after school today, so decided to crack on and add the mile to our walk to school! We ran some of it too, with little bro whizzing along in the pushchair.

Day Six

Monday 6th May
Dry, sunny, chilly breeze. A busy day today, including swimming. Finished this evening by exploring beautiful Minions.

Day Five

Sunday 5th May
Dry, cloudy, sunny spells, mild. A gentle one mile to end our day, after yesterday's longer walk and full tummy's from dinner at Granny's!

Day Four

Saturday 4th May
Dry, sunny spells, v warm! A beautiful four miles for day four, alongside the river Fal, through woodland and Trelissik gardens 🌸🌿🌞

Day 3

Friday 3rd May
Dry, Sunny, v. Warm! Beautiful day for a walk today, and we've all exceeded the one mile in various ways. Mummy enjoy a lush coastpath mile whilst we were at school and we walked/ran laps of the playing field on our lunch break. When mummy picked us up from school we headed off together whilst baby bro stayed home with daddy. We'd finished our mile and were nearly home, when big bro realised he'd dropped his sloth cuddly toy... so we had to turn around and head back to the field we'd walked through where we were jumping into the long grass. Thankfully mummy found the sloth amongst the grass πŸ˜… and we walked back the way we'd come!

Day Two

Thursday 2nd May
Thankfully the rain stopped πŸ‘πŸ½, dry, cloudy & mild. We picked up big bro from after-school footy and walked around the hamlet (whilst munching chocolate muffins...)

Day One

Wednesday 1st May
Dry, cloudy but mild. We started strong and set off straight from after-school club. With baby bro in the pushchair, we walked and we ran, whilst he likely wondered what on earth we were up to! The cat followed us for a bit and then surprised us on the way back by jumping out of the hedge where she'd been waiting!
