I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Last Day

Friday 31st May
Dear Dad

Well here we are. 31st May! I've got 1 more mile to walk, but I know I'll do more today.
I've awoken to see we've had a flurry of donations in the past 24 hrs - we have many friends and family who have been extremely generous. Both Joy and I have achieved the target the RNLI set us, so we'll get a medal each. It will be a lovely momento of a great month.
It's been wonderful being outside and seeing the changes in the landscape over the month. I've enjoyed the time on my own to just clear my mind and soak in the quietness of the river, the moors and the lanes around where we live.
And if course, raising money for the RNLI has just been a real bonus.
Just one more target shield to turn yellow today....
I'm so very thankful to everyone who has supported Joy and I over the past month.
Much love
Lesley

Late May Bank Holiday Weekend

Monday 27th May
25th & 26th May

Dear Dad
What a weekend! Eric's Legend has been in Amsterdam. The KNRM are also celebrating 200 years of saving lives at sea, and she popped across to join in the celebrations.
I managed to find all the information, where and when etc, online and shared it with Joy, who then let Patrick know. So our wonderful Dutch friends got to go see her and join in the celebrations and remember you and Kevin.
I've had a weekend of remembering wonderful holidays in The Netherlands both sailing and camping. Thank You for those amazing times.

Of course this weekend also see's the 10th anniversary of us losing Kevin, but again how poignant that Eric's Legend should be in The Netherlands, as that's Kevin's final resting place.

Eric's Legend is now in Lowestoft - so you've clocked up a fair few sea miles in the past week ❤️⚓❤️

Just a few more days of our challenge left. Haven't had any donations for a while, hoping I'll get a late rally. Miles walked are all on track.
Miss you 😊

Day 14

Tuesday 14th May
Dear Dad
I've missed a couple of days. I just wasn't feeling up to it on a couple and yesterday, well, it was a wash out 🤣🤣
I've been feeling a bit down. 2 years ago we were all together on our wonderful cruise. This morning I found myself smiling remembering the failed attempt to get into Great Yarmouth and how you said "I'd have managed it, he (The Captain) just needed to be braver"
Anyway, the failed attempt meant we sailed on and had a unscheduled stop berthing in South Shields which gave you the opportunity to visit dear Aunty Madge. It was obviously meant to be when we look back at the events that followed. 💔 The memories have made me smile, laugh and cry. Miss you xx
I may have missed a few days but my mileage is on track as I've made it up on others and I've made a personal pledge to donate £2 for every day I miss 😊
Half way there and on target to hit both my miles and donations. It's all going well 😊❤️⚓

Day 1

Wednesday 1st May
Dear Dad
It's May 1st. The first day of Summer. People in Somerset are celebrating Beltane. I can see you raising your eyebrows to that 🤣🤣
The weather is very unseasonable but between the showers this afternoon, I've got my first mile under my belt. Hope we can do you proud as the month goes on xx

RNLI Mile a Day - MayDay Challenge

Tuesday 9th Apr
The sea has been a part of my families life for as long as I can remember.
My Dad was a Merchant Seaman who became a Captain with Townsend Thoresen on the ferries from Dover. My brother followed in his footsteps working for BP and also Townsend Thoresen. I lost my brother to a Brain Aneurysm 10 years ago and my Dad last year. Our family holidays were on our yacht Pipedream which took us to France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Channel Islands and throughout the South of England.
The RNLI has always been our go to Charity as a family and so to remember everyone who has been lost or saved is a great thing. This small contribution is my way of contributing to the valuable work the volunteers at the RNLI do
