My target 62 mi

I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support the RNLI - but doubled! (62 miles/100km)

This May, I’m completing the Mayday Mile challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

I started running on and off in Summer 2023, and I struggled to keep it up when I was doing well and then ended up starting from scratch again every time - like now! So, as a personal goal, I would like to double the challenge and complete at least 62 miles (100km) total running during the month of May (doing minimum 1 mile/1.6km per day), which will be both a mental and physical thing to overcome. I may not be a fast or confident runner, but I hope to improve and build on myself more as a person.

As many people know, I am a Deck Officer on a Discovery Yacht spending 8 months of the year away from home in a critical role onboard. I am not only responsible for 'driving' the ship, but also all the firefighting, lifesaving and day to day duties onboard. When things go wrong on any ship and ships crew cannot fix it, we rely on teams ashore to be the ones to help us when in need, therefore the RNLI is a really important charity to all of us. Not only that, but my partner Kyle James is a long serving member of the RNLI both in Port Talbot and Chiswick (Thames) stations and been a vital part of a team in saving many peoples lives throughout the last 13 years. This is not only for him, but for all his wonderful crew.

As its coming up to summer time and school holidays, the beaches will get busier and more crews/lifeguards will need to be on duty. This collective fundraising will be vital to them over the summer months to ensure personnel are trained and have the equipment they need to save someone struggling in the sea. Despite confidence in water, we cannot underestimate the power of the sea and even the strongest swimmer may need help. Ensuring correct equipment is used can help reduce this, so if doing watersports or you are a less confident swimmer - PFDs/buoyancy aids are a strong recommendation, and always wear lifejackets if sailing!

By donating however big or small, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season. Thank you! :)

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

31/31 - TOTAL 103.7KM

Friday 31st May
Hey all! It’s over! 31 days of running 2 miles a day - it has been a journey, an experience and sometimes an inconvenience I must say, but I cannot believe I did it! Thank you so so much to everyone who donated, it means the world for me to smash my goal and it will be going to a really really good cause! Lor x

3 DAYS LEFT!!

Wednesday 29th May
Hello all! So there’s only 3 days left of my challenge to complete 62 miles/100km this month - and we are at 93.9km!!!! So close to the finish line, I’m so proud of myself for doing this and managing to get my run done every day - I never think I’d wake up at 4/5/6am to go for a run before but that’s new! The last week has been hard, especially being back onboard and having split shifts, adding a run in does cut my rest time, but I’m not going to let that stop me when I’m so close to the end! Thank you to everyone who has donated, I’m now £5 off my goal which is incredible - I never expected to raise £50 let alone almost £150! If you still would like to donate, there’s still time 🫶🏼 Catch you at the finish line! Lor x

2/3 OF THE WAY THERE!

Wednesday 22nd May
Hellllllo! So today was my first run off the ship since joining in Malta on the 18th May and it was so nice compared to the treadmill (despite the heat of the sun…). As I’m 12-4 watch, run is either around 10am or 7pm at the moment to avoid getting too caught up with my rest hours and it seems to be working well! We’ve been to Malta, Sicily, Sardinia and are now in Mahon☺️ Not long left so if you wish to donate, please do so before the last day of the month! Lor x

Up to Day 17/31!!

Friday 17th May
Hello! Been a while but still going strong! Spent the last 4 days in North Wales, so added some elevation to my runs, plus a 4am run this morning before going to the airport today👀 It’s back to work, so I will try to make an even spread of land and treadmill runs😁 Full run information can be found on my Strava!
Catch ya soon! Lor x

Day 13/31!

Monday 13th May
Hello all! Up to date 13 now and still going strong. I’m really enjoying the slow pace runs at the moment, it doesn’t tire me out too much and staying around the 7:00/km mark is so lovely! However, yesterday I smashed a new goal of getting 2 miles in under 20 minutes!!!! Yes it may be a second under 20 minutes but it’s still a massive achievement ☺️ Let’s see what other new records I can set! Lor x

DAY 10: 1/3RD THE WAY THERE!

Friday 10th May
Hello hello! We are now on day 10 and boy is this flying by… I have consistently run 2 miles a day so am still on target, and am really enjoying it! Had a few different locations so far, but stuck with my easy route from home for the last few days😅… It should get more interesting once I leave home in a few days! Today I was looking back on where I started at the beginning of April, only just being able to run 2 miles in 23:26, and being dead at the end of it. Now I can run it in 20:13… comfortably! It’s crazy how far I can come in just over a month! See if we can get under 20 minutes by the end of the month…. Catch ya soon! Lor x

DAY 3,4&5/31

Sunday 5th May
Few days of morning runs, still on track for 100km!!

DAY 2/31

Thursday 2nd May

DAY 1/31

Wednesday 1st May
Started off strong with a 5km run to make up a mile for another day when I can’t run as far! It was rather sunny today so at the end of 5km I felt defeated - and then walked the rest of the way home!😂 Catch ya tomorrow! Lor x

ONE SLEEP LEFT 🤍

Tuesday 30th Apr
Hello! So today is the last day of April, meaning tomorrow is the start of no rest days for a month! I haven’t done as many training runs as I’d like to be honest, but little trips and being ill for a week hasn’t helped! In the meantime I have got a new 5km PR and ran my first 10km!!! Absolutely crazy, never in a million years did I think I would do that! Around the few runs, I’ve done a lot of walking and even paddle boarding as something a little different🤩 Let the challenge begin in the morning! Lor x

20 DAYS TO GO!

Thursday 11th Apr
April is well underway and I have finally come home after my November to April contract! While onboard, I got into a routine of doing 2 miles a day on the treadmill 5 days a week, and now I’m home I’m back to road runs (which have been missed!). Starting to feel like I’ve made progress and can run further now, even a 5k without stopping once🤩 Hopefully I can keep building on my distance and pace over the coming months - but for now I’m really proud of myself! Check in soon, Lor x

Mayday Mile - Sign Up Day!

Saturday 23rd Mar
Hello all!

I am officially signed up to the Mayday Mile challenge as of 23rd March 2024, woohoo!

Preparation is underway, both mentally and physically, to run such a distance throughout May. Rather than use the fundraisers amount of 1 mile per day (31 miles throughout the month), I decided to double it to make more of a challenge for myself - and boy it will be! The page allows me to set a higher distance goal, so 62 miles is inputted and final...!

I appreciate any donation no matter how big or small as it is going to an incredible cause which we never know if we will need at some point in our lives.

Thank you for visiting my page and I will keep you all updated :)
