I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

All done!

Thursday 30th May
So, the 31 miles in May is now completed.

Once again, a BIG, BIG Thank You to everyone for supporting me and, more importantly, for supporting the RNLI and it's volunteers.

Think I'll keep doing some walks - really enjoyed the challenge.

And then there were two ...

Saturday 25th May
Only 2 more miles to do and 6 days to do them. Yippee!

I've actually enjoyed rising to the challenge and mat well do more than the 31 mile's required. Getting a bit faster, still feel it by the time I'm coming to the end of the first mile, but improving .... a big shout out to my fitness trainer,  Niall. You've not sorted the legs out yet, but core strength and back pains definitely so much better. So Thank You! And thank you donors and moral supporters .

Only 4 miles left to do!

Tuesday 21st May
With 10 days left to go and only 4 miles left to complete before the end of May, I know I'm definitely going to make the target.
I've had great support and encouragement from so many people, donations through this RNLI page, plus cheques and cash given to me to pass on - can't thank you all enough. And best of all is that I've so enjoyed rising to the challenge.

Ouch ...

Saturday 18th May
Today I was going to walk 2 miles after have a couple of days off, but ouch, I can't because somehow - don't know how - but somehow, I've hurt my knee and am hobbling. Will ice pack it and hopefully be back to the challenge in a couple of days. I'm 2/3 through, only 11 miles to go and we're only just past halfway through the month, so I'm hopeful that the 31 miles will be completed.

Speeding up ...

Tuesday 7th May
So, when I started these little walks, my average speed was 1.3mph .... pathetic, I know. But its slowly creeping up, going through 2.3 mph, 2.7mph but yesterday and today, I hit the magnificent (for me, anyway) speed of 3.1mph. Admittedly,  by the time I'm nearing the end of a mile walk my calves are burning and my hip hurts, but, each day is a milestone.

Feeling very grateful to those who have sponsored me, given encouragement and support and also pleased with myself.

A mile a day isn't much,

Friday 19th Apr
but, as people who have known me for a long time will know, a couple of years ago I could barely walk to the end of my road, so for me, running or walking that distance IS a challenge.  Another friend asked if I was doing it with my swimming, but as I do half a mile 5 times a week, that felt like cheating. So, to earn the donations, I'm hoping to do it on my legs and feet 😜

Thank you to my Sponsors
