Hitting my fundraising target!

Sunday 24th May

A few days in and I’ve already hit my first fundraising target of £700 ❤️

I picked that number because my dad would have turned 70 this year, so it felt like the right place to start. Massive thank you to family, friends, and some of my dad’s friends too for supporting the RNLI.

This week also brought my very first run… starting right at the beginning with Run 1 of Couch to 5K 🏃‍♀️ I’ve now finished the first week of training with three runs in total.

Honestly, I was not prepared 😂
No music.
No water bottle.
And I definitely didn’t plan my route properly — I ended up running up and down steps and doubling back on myself trying to avoid stopping at busy roads with fast traffic.

The only thing I was prepared for was the outfit — my husband made sure of that. Fully kitted out head to toe in Adidas, including proper running trainers he bought specially for me 👟

For most of the run I was basically just concentrating on the pavement and listening to Jo Whiley telling me to keep going.

Very early days, but I've started.

I never thought I'd be a runner....

Tuesday 19th May

I never thought I’d be a runner.

In fact, the last time I ran properly was in PE at school—over 30 years ago—and even then, it wasn’t something I ever chose. Running just wasn’t “me.”

But this year is different.

In February 2024, my dad died suddenly and unexpectedly. It’s still hard to put into words what that loss feels like. He would have turned 70 this summer—a milestone we should have celebrated together.

We grew up by the sea—St Bees and Whitehaven Harbour were home. The coast shaped so much of our lives. Boats, salt air, changing tides. My dad loved it all. He had a quiet love for the water—whether that was spotting boats on the horizon, heading out for a bit of fishing, or making his annual trip across to the Isle of Man TT.

Every year, without fail, he’d take the boat from Whitehaven to Douglas. It wasn’t just a trip—it was a ritual. Something he loved.

And the sea, for us, always meant something more than just a place.

That’s why this feels right.

This year, I’ve signed up for my first ever run: the Great North Run. And I’ll be running for the RNLI—a charity my dad supported throughout his life.

It won’t be easy. I’m starting from zero. No running habit, no real experience—just a pair of trainers and a reason to begin.

But this isn’t about time, pace, or performance.

It’s about doing something that matters.

It’s about carrying a piece of him with me—every step, every mile, every moment I want to stop but keep going anyway.

This week, the journey starts.

Thank you to my Sponsors
