I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

Hello, friends and fellow sailors

Less than a year ago i was playing strenuous tennis four times a week NO CHALLENGE there! Recently, with health issues I can barely walk to the village and back, only 400 yards. Ok, I am 72, but that's no excuse. I have a variation of vasculitis, amongst other associated problems.

MY CHALLENGE TO MYSELF is to 'WALK THE MAYDAY MILE' every day in May, to raise money for the RNLI.

This year is the 200th Anniversary of the RNLI charity. MY CHALLENGE is to walk around the Quays of Mevagissey and back home, a mile a day, each day in May come 'HELL OR HIGH WATER'!

Hopefully it will do me good, and raise funds for the RNLI. Mum and Dad both raised money for this worthwhile charity for over 50 years. Dad by rescuing sailors, in his own boat who had 'gone aground' on the spit off our house Failte, in the Kyles of Bute. Donations to the RNLI was always his request to those 'rescued' each summer. Mum was an active committee member and fundraiser for over 50 years.

I volunteer, not on a lifeboat, but in our RNLI shop in Mevagissey each week. Helping to raise money and awareness 'FOR THOSE IN PERIL ON THE SEA'.

MY CHALLENGE TO YOU is to help the RNLI in this 200th Centenary Year MAY DAY CHALLENGE by sponsoring my MAYDAY MILE CHALLENGE.

My Updates

Nearly there! 4 more days to go in May

Tuesday 28th May
After 27 days Walking the MAYDAY MILE around the harbour in Mevagissey, where I live, this is only the 3rd consecutive wet day.
But, it is Half Term, so what else would you expect!☹️
I have been lucky with sunny weather until Sunday May 26th…
There has been an amazing response from locals and visitors.
Thank you to you all. Only 4 more days to go.
The RNLI is a charity I volunteer for, not at sea, but in Mevagissey’s Lifeboat Shop. The charity is so worthwhile being a member of, and I’m very proud of what I have achieved. You should be too.

Susie’s MAYDAY MILE Challenge

Wednesday 22nd May
I call myself “The Dead Daffodil” as I walk along Mevagissey Harbour and through the village each day, in my bright yellow tee shirt, raising money for the wonderful RNLI.
It’s been sunny every day till today, 22nd May!
Only 9 more days to go.
A big thank you to everyone who has donated to this great cause in its 200th year of Saving Lives at Sea.
