We're taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, we have decided to take on the May Day Mile for the RNLI. Throughout May; Rosie, Bear, Chris and I will we moving one mile a day by walking, swimming, paddling, cycling or tri-cycling to support the wonderful volunteers at the RNLI.

Every year we visit RNLI Stations around our coastline and get to see just how amazing these men and women are, luckily we have never had to call upon there services but you never know and without donations this amazing institution will not be able to carry on - doing what they do best saving anyone who gets into trouble at sea.

And this is where you come in by answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor our RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Day 31 - Paddle boarding

Saturday 1st Jun
Today is the last day of the may day mile and we got out paddle boarding again. The current was much stronger than it had been previously and the wind was very strong as well. However after a quick sausage roll break the wind had died down and we went out on our boards. Bear wanted to go done the lake further than we normally do so we went down that way and just before it was time to come back for swimming we went up the river towards the train track to investigate that way.

Day 30- paddle boarding

Saturday 1st Jun
Today the weather was better and we managed to get up to Windemere on our paddle boards and do our mile that way. The current was a bit strong going into the river but we managed to paddle against it. Daddy got to try out his new board and it was bears first time on the lake by himself.

Day 29- causeway

Saturday 1st Jun
Today we went back along the causeway however we went the opposite way to what we had previously done. We started in the camping felid and the went along the causeway and the lake after. Bear then went back through the field again however I went along the causeway again like we had done the day before.

Day 28- Bowness

Saturday 1st Jun
Today we went up to Bowness in the rain and had sausage roles. We walked around the town for a bit and saw two ducks going to the café. Despite getting very wet and learning not all of our coats are waterproof, we still completed a mile.

Day 27- the causeway

Saturday 1st Jun
Today we took our bikes round past the lake then along the causeway and back through the caravans. The weather was a bit of so we couldn't go out paddle boarding however hopefully we can go out later in the week

Day 26 -the lakes

Sunday 26th May
Today we headed up to the Lakes hopefully to get some paddleboarding done if the weather let's us. So this afternoon after we had been swimming we headed out on our bikes. We found a new route that takes us around the park upto the lake then along the coast path, though you cant see the sea over the big hill. Tomorrow we should be much quicker now we know where we are going :)

Day 25 - walk and ride

Sunday 26th May
Today we erred busy getting ready to go on holiday so we had to take bears trike to grandpas then walked. Tomorrow we are heading to the lakes so will need to calculate our new route for the final few days..

Day 24 - The Ducks

Sunday 26th May
Today was our last chance to go to the ducks as part of a May Day Mile, we wandered upto the waterfall and back but as there is a festival there this weekend the road was really busy so we retraced our steps and took the muddy path back.

Day 23 - park and round

Thursday 23rd May
Today we went to the park but instead of coming back through the field we went along the road way. Bear had to show me how to get through the estate as I had not been that way before. Like yesterday we got very wet from the rain the tree branches were very low again so they kept hitting us again. On the way back Bear ended up with half a tree under his basket but after we had removed that we got home with no problems. Rosie:)

Day 22 - park

Wednesday 22nd May
Today we went to the park, Bear on his trike and I ran with him. It was very, very rainy so we got very, very wet even though we only did a quick once around the park so I could get to guitar. Bear discovered that the branches were lower than normal so he could fling them back and soak me. Bear also decided that he wanted to race me so I had to run the whole way. Rosie:)

Day 20+21

Tuesday 21st May
Today and yesterday we took our bikes to the park after school. However on the way back we split up and raced back. I went through the field while bear took his trike along the road so he didn't get muddy. Both days I beat them back home by a few minutes and have been stuck out side until bear came to my rescue with the keys. Rosie:)

Day 19 - Buxton

Sunday 19th May
Today we went to Buxton and got Bear some new walking boots. We then got an ice cream and walked through the park and around the rivers and ponds. We saw some fish on our way around and the stopped at the park for a bit. After trying them out bear thinks his new boots are good. Tomorrow we will probably go out on our bikes again and to the park. Rosie:)

Day 17+18 - park and ducks

Saturday 18th May
Yesterday we went to the park and then to grandpas to sort out his light board on his campa, followed by a race home me through the field and Bear along the road. Then today we went to the ducks where I saved a tadpole, we saw baby ducks, we hid some more rocks and then I had  a slushy and Bear had a pop-pop. Tomorrow we might go to the ducks again. Rosie:)

Day 16 - Park

Thursday 16th May
Today we are over half way through may and completed 22 miles, and we took our bikes to the park however did not go through the field today as it kept raining. We got stuck in a few places when we slowed down on hills however we still managed to do our mile. The rain only got heavy on the way back, so we didn't get to wet. Tomorrow we will complete day 17 possibly on our bikes again. Rosie:)

Day 15 - Park and run.

Wednesday 15th May
Todays mile was a little bit different to normal. It started of the same as always however ended in a mad dash as we slit up and had to get home as soon as possible, not because it had started to rain very heavily but because we thought I had yet another puncture. I had managed to get a small pin badge stuck in my tier so we tried to get home as quickly as possible however when we arrived home and took it out it had not quite gone deep enough to need fixing. Tomorrow we will be a bit later than normal as I have stem club but then we will go and do mile 16. Rosie:)

Day 14 park and field

Tuesday 14th May
Today is two weeks sine we took on the mayday mile challenge. We took our bikes through the park and, narrowly avoiding a collision, went to the field again. Today it was very muddy and even Bears new of-roading tiers kept slipping in the mud. After managing to get out the mud we came home without any problems with our bikes and put them away so we can go out again tomorrow. Rosie:)

Day 13 - Park and field

Monday 13th May
Today we took our bikes down to the park again where Bear had a welcoming comity of people from year six who he did not know the name of. After going through the field and sorting out Bears gears we raced home and managed not to get rained on. Before we left Bear had also decided to carry the backpack in his basket so mummy didn't have to carry it. Tomorrow we will do the same. Rosie:)

Day 12 - The ducks

Sunday 12th May
Today we went back to the ducks and hid some rocks along the way. We walked up to the waterfall and back through the forest. On the way back we saw three baby ducks and had a debate about weather the pigeon was a boy or a girl. After we had be round we had some ice-cream Bear had strawberry and I had mint choc chip. Tomorrow it is likely that we will go to the park on our bikes. Rosie:)

Day 11 - Park and Field

Saturday 11th May
Today Bear got to try out his knew tiers as we went through the field, with no punctures being gained. Beforehand we  had stopped at grandpas where Bear tried some tricks such as bouncing up curbs and riding on a slant. He also learnt that he can't stop half way up a hill otherwise he will role back down. Tomorrow we will either go out on our bikes again or go to Buxton. Rosie:)

Day 10 - the ducks

Friday 10th May
Today we reach double digits and me and daddy went tot the ducks while end rode his trike around the road. We went up the road and over to keg pool before going back through the forest to the car. Bear is fitting the new tiers on his trike so we can go through the field a bit easier. Hopefully we can try them out tomorrow in the field. Rosie:)

Day 9 - the ducks

Thursday 9th May
For day 9 we returned to the ducks. This time we just we around the lake and not through the forest and on the way back we befriended a squirrel. It was the first mile this week we didn't take our bikes on which didn't please the bear. Todays mile wasn't as rushed as yesterday as we had no wear to be. Tomorrows mile we may return to the park and field. Rosie:)

Day 8 - Speed run

Wednesday 8th May
Today we completed our mile in record time 20 minutes. Within 10 minutes of me being home from school we had left for the park. Me and bear rode as fast as we could making mummy run behind us and we left daddy at the first corner. We made it back everyone in one piece so I could leave for guitar and bear can play with his Lego. Tomorrow it will be a less hectic mile maybe back to the ducks. Rosie:)

Day 7 - Park and field

Tuesday 7th May
One week into the challenge and we decided to trike and bike again. We went round to the park and back through the field, without any punctured this time. However bears trike kept getting stuck in piles of mud. Tomorrow we have very little time in between school  guitar and swimming so it will be a quick trip out to the park to complete our mile. Rosie:)

Day 6 - park and field

Monday 6th May
Today is day six and we took our bike and trike through the park and round into the field. Bear took his trike off-roading for the first time and, apart from getting stuck in a ditch, found it rather fun. However he had more fun shouting at me when we got back as I had punctured both of my tiers. Tomorrow we are back at school so we will be going to the park again. Rosie:)

Day 4+5 - Birmingham and grandpa's

Sunday 5th May
Yesterday, after several attempts at trying to figure out how many lengths of the building we need to do, we still managed to do a mile. Today we set out on our bikes and trikes to complete mile 5. We travelled through the park and up to grandpas house to see weather bears trike can fit on the back of his camper before we go away. Tomorrow we will likely go to Buxton and do our  mile there. Rosie:)

Day 3 - the field near the train tracks

Friday 3rd May
The third day of our mayday mile challenge and although the weather wasn't as nice as it was for the previous two days we still did 1.5 miles each. The field wasn't as muddy as we had expected since it has been raining lots today, however the grass was long and vey wet. Tomorrow we may not be able to complete our mile so we will make it up on Sunday or the bank holiday on Monday. Rosie:)

Day 2- the ducks

Thursday 2nd May
Day two of taking on the mayday mile challenge and this time equipped with the appropriate footwear and the knowledge not to run straight away, we walked around the ducks. Combined we walked a total of 8 miles (two miles each). Whereas I enjoyed the hike through the forest Bear was not to keen. Tomorrow we will complete mile 3 - the field near the train tracks. Rosie:)

Day 1 - the park.

Wednesday 1st May
Today we completed our first mile. We journeyed to the park and back and learnt many valuable lessons. Bear learnt that it is not a good idea to sprint the first 10 meters as a mile is a long way to run. We also now know that appropriate footwear is required, wearing pumps as you try and keep up with Bear is not the easiest task. Lets hope we can remember these lessons for tomorrows mile, a walk with the ducks. Rosie :)
