The Event
What is RNLI Fish Friday?
Fish Friday is a way to help brave RNLI volunteers continue saving lives at sea. Take part by gathering your crew and tucking into a tasty fish dish one Friday.
When you register, a fundraising page will be automatically created which you can share with your guests. Every single donation from your RNLI Fish Friday will help give RNLI volunteers all they need to save lives.
When do I need to hold my event? Does it have to be on a Friday?
It's up to you when you decide to host an RNLI Fish Friday, but we are encouraging everyone to plan their event to be on a Friday.
How does the RNLI Fish Friday work?
There are many ways that you can take part in the RNLI Fish Friday. You could organise a takeaway on the beach, host a barbecue, buy in battered fish and oven chips from the supermarket, or cook something at home and host a dinner.
As well as enjoying a tasty fish dish, why not put on an activity to encourage more people to join in on the fun? If you’re heading to the beach with a fish and chips takeaway, you could split into teams for a game of rounders. Or, if you’re having your RNLI Fish Friday at home, host a quiz and find out who in your crew knows the most fishy facts!
When you register, a fundraising page will be automatically created which you can share with your friends and family. You’ll also be able to download your free Fundraising Guide which has more inspiration.
Where does the RNLI Fish Friday take place?
It's up to you. Decide what you're going to do for your RNLI Fish Friday, whether that be tucking into a chippy supper on the beach, putting on a fishy feast at a garden barbecue, or hosting a delicious fish-themed dinner party. And don't forget to decide on a date – all you need to do is pick a Friday and invite your crew! If necessary, consider a backup plan for where and how you'll host your event in case the weather – or other circumstances – prevent you from going ahead.
Is there a registration fee?
There is no registration fee to take part, however we are asking everyone that holds a RNLI Fish Friday to raise funds via their fundraising page, to bring us closer to saving every one we can.
Fundraising
How do I collect money for my RNLI Fish Friday?
Once you sign up, your fundraising page will be automatically created, and all donations collected on your page will come directly to the RNLI. You can add your own profile picture and tell us why you’re taking part in the RNLI Fish Friday. You can then share your page with friends and family so they can donate to support you and the RNLI’s volunteer lifesavers.
How do I pay in my fundraising?
All donations made to your fundraising page will be automatically transferred to the RNLI, so you don’t need to do anything. If you receive any cash donations, you can bank them yourself and transfer the amount to your online fundraising page. Every contribution makes a real, lifesaving difference.
Is there a minimum amount I should raise? (or - is there a target I need to hit?)
The money you raise will help our lifesavers to save every one they can, so any amount you raise is greatly appreciated by our crews.
Will I receive anything for participating in RNLI Fish Friday?
As a charity, the RNLI is reliant on donations to fund its lifesaving work and we have a duty to use those donations in the most responsible way possible, in the face of rising costs. We therefore will not be providing any incentive to participate in RNLI Fish Friday in order to keep our fundraising costs to a minimum.
Is Gift Aid included in my fundraising total?
Yes, the amount shown on your online fundraising page includes Gift Aid.
What will the money raised be spent on?
RNLI Fish Friday is an unrestricted fundraising campaign, so any donations kindly made by supporters will go into general funds to be used where they are needed most and help us in our mission to save every one.
I have tried to donate to my fundraising page and you have tried to charge me an additional amount at the banking app stage?
When donating to your own fundraising page there is an optional additional fee to help cover maintaining the technology used to keep the platform available for donations. You can vary this % or remove it completely. This additional fee is entirely optional.
