I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

I'm Eleanor and I'm 5 (my mommy had to set up this page, which is why it says Rachel, but we all know who is doing the hard work!). This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Me doing the bee boogie!

Saturday 24th May

Day 23: Buzz buzz

Saturday 24th May
Today I did my Mayday Mile as a bee, as I dressed up for my school assembly. Did you know bees do a bee boogie, wiggle wiggle! We then went to my favourite cafe and I had a chocolate milkshake before cricket. It was lovely!

Day 22: Ouch!

Saturday 24th May
Today I walked from grandma and grandad's for my Mayday Mile. Afterwards, I went on the playground and fell off the slide. I hurt my side and I have a big bruise, but I can still do my mile.

Day 21: Willesley Woods

Saturday 24th May
Today we went around Willesley Woods for my Mayday Mile. Someone had built a den there and I loved playing in it! Mommy and Michael also did some geocaching. It was very hot and I got quite tired, but I still want to do my mile a day because I love the lifeboat!

Day 20: More doughnuts!

Wednesday 21st May
Today we walked to grandma and grandads for milkshake and doughnuts. Grandad met me and took me home so mommy and my brother could go to the library. We saw the road had a new covering of rocks on it, so I asked lots of questions about it.  Later,  I did a duck race in the bath. I moved the ducks around the bath and mommy had to shout for her favourite one. She won!

Day 19: Cycling at Hicks Lodge

Wednesday 21st May
Today I rode my bike around Hick's Lodge for my Mayday midday mile. I have a red bike and my brother has a yellow one. I rode my bike all around the lake, and even climbed up the hill by myself! Afterwards.I played on the playground, it was fun!

Day 18: Dimminsdale and milkshake

Wednesday 21st May
Today we went to see the go-karts race down the hill in Ashby and then I went to a birthday party.  After the party we went a walk around Dimminsdale, which is very nice and had lots of wild garlic. On the way we went to a local dairy and got a chocolate milkshake. It was delicious!

Day 17: Moira Canal Festival

Wednesday 21st May
Today we went to the canal festival at Moira. We parked a mile away and we walked to the festival and back along the canal. I heard lots of birds singing beautifully. I loved the festival,  I played on the dodgems, bounced on the trampoline and helped a magician. We also saw the duck race, which I loved! We had to shout for our duck, and there were kayaks to push the ducks along the canal. The lady on the trampoline gave me some money for the RNLI, thank you!

Day 16: Halfway there!

Saturday 17th May
I'm over halfway! We walked around town today, it was very hot, and then we walked to cricket. I had an ice cream from a shop which was really nice. After cricket we had a picnic dinner of pizza in the park. It was delicious!

Day 15: Round the block

Saturday 17th May
Today I was with grandma and grandad after school. I walked around the block with grandad to get my mile for the day.

Day 14: Askews point!

Saturday 17th May
We had to work hard to fit in our Mayday Mile today as we had to go to the dentist after school (the dentist says my teeth are very good). On the way back we parked in Repton and climbed Askew Hill. At the top there is a geocache called Askews Point, so we decided to point at something!

Day 13: Back from school again

Saturday 17th May
Today I walked to grandma and grandad's. I did half with it with mommy and then walked the other half with grandad. I had a custard doughnut at the end, they are even nicer than jam ones!

Day 12: Round town again

Saturday 17th May
I walked with daddy and Michael around town and finished at the playground. We had fun and then I had a really thick milkshake. It was delicious!

Day 11: Shuttleworth

Sunday 11th May
Today I went to Shuttleworth with my daddy and brother. I did my mile around the Swiss Gardens. I loved the gardens and want to go there again to do my Mayday Mile!

Day 10:Melton Mowbray

Saturday 10th May
Today we went out to a theme park, so we did my midday mile on the way back in Melton Mowbray. I love to go everywhere on my midday mile and I saw an aeroplane which was lovely.

Day 9. Cricket!

Saturday 10th May
Today we walked around time until it was time for cricket. It was my first time playing cricket and I really liked it. I enjoyed hitting the ball with the bat and mommy said I was very good. I also enjoyed throwing the ball, although I couldn't throw it very far. Afterwards, we sat in the park and ate pizza. Yummy!

Day 8. A mile with grandma

Saturday 10th May
I went to grandma and grandad's house for dinner today. Grandma did my midday mile with me (mommy says it's Mayday Mile, but I don't believe her!). We walked to the park and back again. Then I had sausage for my dinner.

Day 7: Milkshake and doughnuts

Saturday 10th May
We walked to grandma and grandads house, which is up a very big hill. I was tired when I got to the top, but I had a milkshake and a doughnut and felt much better. We then walked home. On the way home, I met Aisla, who is my new friend. She lives near me and is going to marry a boy in my class at school. She is 5, just like me!

Day 6: Round town

Tuesday 6th May
I loved doing the Mayday Mile, I explored all the town and saw a cat at the school. I loved the cat very much. I was very hot, but we bought an ice cream to cool me down. Thank you for everyone who has given me money, thank you!

Day 5: Geocaching!

Monday 5th May
There were lots of geocaches on today's walk. We found nine and we made an experiment on the way back. I stayed in a den too. There was a big playground at the end of the walk and I had lots of fun

Day 4: More bluebells!

Sunday 4th May
I went to Calke Abbey today. I saw lots of bluebells and I liked running, jumping and climbing trees. Thank you to everyone who has given me money

Day 3: Bluebells!

Saturday 3rd May
Today we went a walk and I saw lots of bluebells. I loved doing geocaching and I loved climbing the hill and the countryside!

Day 2: first with my helmet!

Friday 2nd May
Did my mile after school today. Mommy brought my RNLI helmet to school, so I could wear it on my walk. I loved telling everyone I met about what I was doing and why!

Day 1: a warm start

Friday 2nd May
Today I walked my first mile round the town where I live. It was very hot! My mommy carried the school bags. My brother had put a large fossil in his that he had found at Whitby, so mommy was very tired when we got home. I also forgot my RNLI helmet, but I will wear it for my mile tomorrow.

Intro

Friday 2nd May
Hi, I'm Eleanor and I'm 5. I live near the furthest place from the sea in England. I love lifeboats. When I grow up, I want to be a doctor lifeboatman who goes into space. When I heard about the May Day Mile I really wanted to do it to raise money for the lifeboat. My mommy will be doing the challenge with me and I will wear my lifeboat helmet so everyone knows what I am doing!
