I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Walk Sixteen

Saturday 17th May
SciFi Night! Had a lush evening with Dad watching Andor S2, then headed out for my walk... 9.67 miles to go! Well, would you look at that! The first is a single digit! I mean the other two mean pretty much two-thirds, so it rounds to ten, but still... Canny! The night was still and calm and temperate... Noticed the elevations tonight, like, in my brain, not my body... Oh and also... Lunchtime today marked the halfway point temporally, and I’m going to go ahead and say I’m at the two-thirds point distancely (yes, I’m inventing words now), so I guess it’s time to start thinking about what to do if I reach my goal early…

Walk Fifteen

Saturday 17th May
So, you know when it's a Gym Night? I start the tracker when I leave the house, pause it at the door, do my session then start the tracker again at the door and walk back to the house via the ASDA Garage to get a Picnic bar... Thing is, I do a mile on the treadmill each time... The app can't track that as I'm not covering physical distance and I don't own a wearable... Now, technically this isn't an 'extra mile' I do this every session so I wouldn't log it here, it just feels some kinda way is all... 10.85 miles to go!

Friday 16th May
Really leaning into the routine of it all... This route is lush! Gentle elevation changes, downhill in the final section... Nice! 12.37 miles to go!

Walk Thirteen

Friday 16th May
Gym Night! And, it would appear, a walk to the ASDA Garage... A Cadbury Picnic bar is a healthfood, right? I mean it has raisins, RAISINS!!! 13.83 miles to go! Definately passed the halfway point distance wise!

Walk Twelve

Monday 12th May
Expecting the caffeine crash any moment now, so typing quickly! Lols! 15.23 miles to go! Can we call this 'halfway', distance-wise? Or not quite, yet?!

Walk Eleven

Monday 12th May
After a brill day with the Sister, Brother in Law, and Neiflings... Realised it was getting late after dinner so decided to do my walk in Bedlington! My Sister came with me! Properly lovely! 16.93 miles to go!

Sunday 11th May
Almost up-to-date with the updates! Ten days in, 12.7 miles walked, 18.3 miles to go! Launching the fundraising of it all today!

Walk Nine

Saturday 10th May
Very nearly forgot to go for my walk! Played online Mario Kart, built some socials posts for work, drank a couple of Guinesses, ate fish and chips, became blissfully couch based... WALK!!! Headed out at 22:00, perfect weather, felt great tbf! 18.8 miles to go! Look at that, I've walked over 10 extra miles in 9 days... ☺️

Saturday 10th May
Gym Night! It's mean that the walk from the gym is uphill! Lols! Heard back from RNLI. Apparently, even though I'm tracking with one of the two recommended apps, automatic syncing of activity requires a wearable. yay. Resolve to keep going and to sit down on Saturday and manually log my activity, and then on Sunday launch the fundraising of it all... Wonder if folk will notice the first ten entries were all posted on the same weekend! Lols! 20.08 miles to go!

Saturday 10th May
Need to remember to restart the tracker, before, crossing the road! Lols! 22.08 miles to go!

Walk Six

Saturday 10th May
Gym Night! It's about half a mile there, I add a little extra on the way back just to make sure... 23.25 miles to go!

Walk Five

Saturday 10th May
Definitely settling into a routine/route... Still not seeing updates on my page, I'm starting and closing an activity in the app, the information is logging in the FitBit app... Grumble! 24.55 miles to go!

Walk Four

Saturday 10th May
Starting to find a route that I like... Activity still not syncing from the FitBit app... Glad to have a few miles under my belt, want to get the logging issues sorted before launching fundraising though... 25.71 miles to go!

Needed to go to the ASDA Garage, so added a walk around the estate... 26.89 miles to go!

Saturday 10th May
Got off the bus a couple of stops early... Haven't settled into a routine or a route yet... 28.25 miles to go! Noticed that my activity hadn't been logged from the previous day...

Very much started as I hope to go on... I walk around 3 miles per day, so I wanted to approach this as an 'extra mile'... 29.46 miles to go!
