How your support helped the RNLI in 2024

437 Lives saved

25,327 People aided by lifeboat crews and lifeguards

9,141 Lifeboat launches

I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Wednesday 13th May

Wednesday 13th May
Today the weather was very windy and wet, but having spent the morning on duty in the RNLI shop, I began my walk in the afternoon when the weather had improved.  I did a local walk and clocked up one and a quarter miles.  Now for tomorrow ....

Tuesday 12th May

Tuesday 12th May
This morning was very windy with frequent showers so I left my walk until this afternoon.  The weather had improved although still windy, the sun was out.
Did one of my favourite walks down New Lane, past the entrance to the Garden Centre and down the country lane.  Called in the Garden Centre for a cuppa before heading for home.  Today I have acchieved 2 miles.

Monday 11th May

Tuesday 12th May
Went to Poulton on the bus and walked to the Care Home to see my cousin.  Walked one mile.
At lunchtime I drove into Cleveleys and met my friend Pauline.  Had a good walk round the town and achieved another mile.

My visitors left this morning, so after an early lunch, I drove into Cleveleys and walked to a friend's house.  This clocked up just over a mile each way.  Now for tomorrow...

Saturday 9th May

Sunday 10th May
As I was having visitors for the weekend, I walked one mile locally before they arrived and then later we all went out and I covered another mile.

Friday 8th May

Sunday 10th May
I was on duty at the RNLI shop in Fleetwood this afternoon, so I went out early and walked locally along Bispham Road from home and then along Fleetwood Road.   This walk clocked up one and a quarter miles.  Glad I could squeeze in the walk.

Thursday 7th May

Sunday 10th May
A nice day weatherwise, so I walked to the end of New Lane and back past the entrance to Burnside Garden Centre.  So peaceful.  Met many dog-walkers who all spoke to me.  Today I walked one and a half miles.

Wednesday 6th

Wednesday 6th May
A beautiful day so decided to drive to Cleveleys for a walk along the promenade.  The sky was very clear and I had a good view of the mountains in the Lakes.  I also saw the Isle of Man ferry change from a speck on the horizon to a clear image as it got closer to Heysham.  I managed to walk two and a half miles and really enjoyed the exercise.

Monday 4th May

Monday 4th May
Weatherwise today is much better than yesterday.  I walked from home to my nearest Garden Centre.  Had a look round, a coffee, and then proceeded beyond the Garden Centre down a country lane.  Wonderful - the birds were singing and wild flowers all around in verges.   Headed back for home and achieved a walk of two and a half miles.  Now for tomorrow....

Sunday 3rd May

Sunday 3rd May
Today was very rainy, so I decided to do a local walk around the town where I live.  I enjoyed seeing an area I am now familiar with, and walked one mile and a half.

T0day 2nd May

Saturday 2nd May
Today I spent the day at the RNLI Fleetwood helping with their Fund-raising Fun Day.  We had lots of visitors and I was pleased to see that all the cakes I baked along with a great portion of the other contributions for the cake stall, were sold.
Not much time for my mile challenge, but I did manage to do two miles during a break from the shop and walking further on my way home.

The First of May!

Friday 1st May
Today I started my challenge.  I walked three and a half miles along the promenade at Cleveleys.  Lucky with the weather this morning as it has now changed.  Thank you to all my supporters.
