I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

31 Miles achieved and £584 Raised!

Saturday 31st May
I feel very proud to have finished my final 31st mile this morning and fittingly I walked it along the beach following a glorious swim in the sea! I feel so grateful for all the support I’ve received which enabled me to raise much more than I expected. Although a mile a day doesn’t sound a lot the commitment of doing that everyday was challenging at times ( on one memorable day my mile was walked in the ☔️ !!) but I was determined to complete the challenge.

4 miles down, just 27 to go!

Sunday 4th May
I am using the challenge as an opportunity to explore new places. First 2 days I undertook walks along by the sea, on the first one I got a swim in too! Third mile was a local walk in my visage and today I went to a new village for my walk. Wonderful Suffolk countryside and buildings and the chance to see somewhere new.

My aim is to do walks in new areas each week. I am also planning some additional fundraising next week with a yard sale including plants and cakes baked by me as I would like to add to my total.

I am so grateful raised to all my friends and the people I know who have been so generous with their support of my fundraising.

A Big Thank You!

Wednesday 9th Apr
I’m so grateful to all the people who have supported me so far. I am well on my way to achieving my target of £250 and there is still a month to go till I start my challenge!

Why I signed up!

Monday 7th Apr
I’ve always loved being by the sea but after a near drowning in a swimming pool in my early teens have had a fear of being in the water. I have a friend in Scotland who swims all year round in the lochs and about 3 years ago felt inspired by what she does to finally tackle my fear of water! It’s still a work in progress but the sense achievement I finally got when I made it into the sea was amazing and I understood why my friend did it! You have to respect the sea and that’s why what the RNLI does is so important. I have personally benefitted from swimming on lifeguarded beaches so this is my way of giving something back. I’ve never done anything like this before but I am definitely up for the challenge 😀
