I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

Day 3: a hike instead

Friday 3rd May
What I feared from the day before was true, I had indeed pulled my calf and so to ensure I am able to recover and start running again I decided to hike instead, I intended to hike for only 30-40 mins but this turned into 2 hours of exploring stanmer park.

Day 2 complete

Friday 3rd May
Started at around 8:30pm finished at about 9pm. It was a little cold from the storm the night before, biblical lightning. I managed to run half the way up stop and run half the way down. Better then the day before but I fear I may have pulled my calf.

First mile complete

Thursday 2nd May
First mile complete, the run started at the back of stanmer park and followed the path up to stanmer house then back again. It was about 8pm when I started the run so it was calm and a little dark due to the clouds blanketing the setting sun.

The challenge

Monday 22nd Apr
Hello, welcome to my sponsor page for the mayday mile. Why am I participating in the mayday mile? Well that’s an easy one; I'm a sailor, the RNLI means a lot to me and the community that I love. Without them the seas would be a much more dangerous place, they have been a bastion of safety along the coast and in some cases a savior. I have fortunately never had to rely on the RNLI in any of my voyages but I have always been captivated by their boats coming back from a call or launching from a harbor and I do admire the people on board putting themselves at risk whilst trying to save others. And as such I feel I should at least do my bit to help them in their task and support this wonderful charity.
