I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Monday 19th May
Just short of 5 miles and a day at the RVPT event in Morecambe for their bus rally saw me at Heysham Village and a good amount of waking.

Knott and Ferry

Saturday 17th May
Took a trip on the Fleetwood to Knott End Ferry next to Fleetwood RNLI. Another service RNLI assist with. Had a good walk on the other side and got the steps in. Thanks for everyone’s support.

Well I've hit the target but will keep going

Day 12 - Birthday!

So despite been on my birthday I still made an effort to get some steps in and did 3.5 miles as well as a game of football. Thanks as always to ALL my sponsors, both of you.

Day day 11 motorbike ride and 2.1 miles walked

Monday 12th May
So Day 11. 2.1 miles done. A day on the bike and so not many steps but made the effort to go do some steps and managed to do 2.1 miles. Beauty of doing this challenge as I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. Thanks to everyone who’s sponsored.

Day 10 - Trip to Blackpool & RNLI

Sunday 11th May
So some chores took us to Blackpool and so the opportunity to call in at RNLI near the Tower. We of course put some spare change into the collection tin and got some steps in. Just short of 3 miles today.

Day 9

Saturday 10th May
Trip out to Blackpool, few more miles completed. Beautiful day for a walk.

Day 8 - just over a mile

Friday 9th May
A busy day at work so not much walked but managed to get just over a mile.

Day 7 - Work day 3.5 Miles

Thursday 8th May
So never easy when working away but helped me get more steps than usual and a walking distance of 3.5 miles. Quite pleased with that after spending a long time sat down on the train but trying to make the effort to move around wherever possible.

Day 6 - Swim & walk

Wednesday 7th May
So day 6 wasn’t high in steps but did get a swim in but I’m only counting the steps as no idea how far I swam!

Day 5 - Made me walk!

Tuesday 6th May
So had a day of travelling and then really didn’t want to go for a walk but the challenge made me get up and do it! So 2.5 miles in total.

Day 4 - Danced the mile to Anastacia

Sunday 4th May
Danced the mile to Anastasia today for a bit of a change

Day 3 - 11k steps 4.4 miles

Saturday 3rd May
Well. Day 3 completed and really stepped up the steps. Over 11k steps and over 4 miles. Thanks to everyone (2) for their support. Anybody willing to donate even £1 and show their support would be much appreciated toward my goal of £125.

Travelling day

Friday 2nd May
Spent the day travelling back from holiday including a ferry ride so not a lot to say but I made the effort to do some walking and have managed a small 1.6 miles.

Just like any donations though - it all helps towards the bigger goal :)

First day - mile done before 08:00!

Thursday 1st May
Start as you mean to go on!

I’m on holiday on the Isle of Man. No excuse for no talking when here! Weather is incredible. So up and at them following a shower and out the door just after 07:00.

Here’s a photo to show my walk this Morning around Langness Lighthouse at Dreswick Point looking back to Derbyhaven and Castletown.

I will be uploading my daily total later to show the total and not the 1.2 miles I’ve done so far.

Thanks for everyone’s support.

Not long to go.....

Wednesday 23rd Apr
Well everyone - it will soon be May and the challenge starts! I'm actually away for the start of it but that is just going to push me on and make me do it even more!

Thanks for everyone's support so far and if you could give anything then that would be much appreciated!

Even £1 can make a difference towards my target!

I have uploaded a photo from the weekend showing the Knott End Ferry at Fleetwood. The ferry has just recently returned to traffic - a lifeline and uns directly next door to the RNLI at Fleetwood.

4.7 Miles walked today

Monday 7th Apr
Today has been a good day in readiness for the challenge with 4.7 miles walked in total.

If you can help in anyway even just £1 towards my target of £125 then it would be much appreciated.

This is not only part of raising funds for RNLI but part of a personal journey for myself.

£38 raised so far

Friday 4th Apr
Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say a personal thanks to Graeme Mcginley and Ian Mylroi for their donations.

So kind and supportive not only of me but a very just worthy charity.

Looking forward to the challenge.

Maybe the April sunshine is helping!

If you do feel you can share a little. Even just £1 then it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David
