I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Day 10 Seaton Night Ride

Saturday 10th May
I’d scoped out a decent ride at the top end of Seaton however the road was way busier than I thought it would be at 10pm Saturday night, so cut through a car park and used 2 nice drop ins along the seafront. After a v warm day the chill of the evening was a big change

Day 10 another night ride in Seaton

Saturday 10th May

Day 9 - post graduation ride

Saturday 10th May
After Lady W’s graduation I got out the beast my loooongboard) and toad it road the streets of Seaton

Day 8 - late night ride on the beast

Saturday 10th May
Didn’t arrive in Devon til mid night but the ride still happened

Day 7 -longboarding the vale

Saturday 10th May
Lovely ride avoiding cars on the Vale

Day 6 - longboarding in the sunshine

Tuesday 6th May
Day 6 an evening ride on the longboard. Managed to avoid any traffic on our road however did get some heckling from a neighbour “I just said to my wife ‘I’ve just seen an old man go past on a skateboard’”. He’s right on both accounts of course! Was very satisfying as the ride, albeit bumpy in places was enjoyable and my knee held up throughout

Day 5 - Bank Holiday Paddling

Monday 5th May
Down at Aldridge SUP Club for a paddle on The Swag
A couple of students joined us on the water with instructor Dan.
Gusting cross wind but certainly enjoyable
5th mile clocked up

Day 4 - Paddling The Swag

Sunday 4th May
So Sunday afternoon the wind was better at The Swag over in Aldridge at the Aldridge SUP School so it was time to get out the paddle board and get the mile done Big thanks to head instructor and owner Steve Theo for his support and company The cross wind was hard on the arms but it’s such a beautiful place So relaxing

Day 3 - so windy but made it on the water

Saturday 3rd May
So had planned to Paddleboard at Aldridge SUP School Arrived at the lake and wind was gusting over 40mph. In an attempt to be safe I abandoned Paddleboarding and took to the water in a kayak. It was the right choice. My shoulder la hurt from the exercise but worth it

Day 2 - avoiding cars!

Friday 2nd May
Decided to do post work rather than first thing. Big mistake. So many cars up n down the road. Most wouldn’t make room for me so had to keep bailing Another mile clocked up

Day 1

Thursday 1st May
Day 1 done An early start before my train to London Not ridden for so many years and my legs confirm it but great to feel the wind generated Forgot how good it felt

1 mile each day in May on a board

Tuesday 1st Apr
For those that don’t know me I’m a husband, father to 3 great children and grandfather to cute boys
For fun I love being by, on, in or under the water with hobbies as long as your arm including Paddleboarding, scuba diving, walking the dog by the sea or lakes
I’ve done most board sports and thought I’d do something a bit different
With the challenge for 1 mile every day I will do the mile on either my longboard or paddleboard
If the weather is too bad (and living in the UK it could be) I will clock up a mile in the pool swimming
So I’m trying to raise money for the RNLI
Why?
They are volunteers, put themselves in danger to rescue people in dire straits
I have massive respect for their courage and selflessness to save others.
I have never had to call them out and hope I never have to but to have them in your corner is a massive comfort
