Wheels for Waves

By Edward Millard

I’m fundraising for the RNLI

Every day, around the coasts of the UK and Ireland, RNLI volunteers are kitting up to answer desperate calls for help. But they can’t launch to the rescue without support. The RNLI relies on donations to fund the kit and training volunteers need to save lives at sea and return safely home. I’m fundraising to help them stay ready to rescue.

Progress

Thursday 6th Aug
Over the past almost 8 weeks now, I have been slowing increasing my weekly milage and the duration of my rides, just tipping over the scales at 600km of time in the saddle. I've beaten Ditchling Beacon and ridde 40km in one ride 4 times now. As the date gets closer, I'll be pushing to hit 80km each time to really make sure I'm ready.

Getting Started

Sunday 14th Jun
London to Brighton is no joke, 85km with more than a kilometre of elevation on a bike is tough for those not used to it. So today I decided to get an idea of my fitness and to start training!

First proper ride in the saddle with a lap around Richmond Park, at 10.5km and 103m of elevation, I'd likely need to do more than 8 laps to get the same amount of effort compared to L2B.

All in all, it went well, completing a lap in just over 30 mins. Pretty much everyone there bar 1 person was wayyy faster than me but I know that this is the beginning and I will improve.
