We're taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, we're completing a mile a day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

I made a silly mistake during a turn in my Kayak last year. Trying to save the fish I'd caught, I'd put back because it was small but it just glittered Gold in the water on its side & my instinct to save it,over took my knowledge of not leaning over until my turn was finished..... momentary lapse of concentration, ( really juls)!

Anyway, my ankle was wrapped around & tethered too what was now the other side of my upside down kayak.

I had no chance of becoming free.  Phil was as always amazing trying to pull me & an upside down kayak towards the beach. Only coz I was mortified by the engine I could hear coming.

1st person I see after being rescued and winched on the Shannon is my old Vet, who just shook his head when I told him what happened. Anything injured, I'd be at his door 🤣🙈 bet he's glad he's retired!

We had all the correct kit, it was a mistake I'll never make again and we were advised by the fabulous crew to get straight back out there.

I and my family are forever grateful.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble by the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor our RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?
