I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Day 29 and beyond

Tuesday 4th Jun
I have continued to do my 2 miles a day and hope that I will going forward. Thanks again to everyone that has supported me in May.

Day 28 - I've done it!!

Wednesday 29th May
My walk today included going to my shift at the RNLI Lifeguard Visitor Centre at Fistral, where my own personal RNLI journey began 2 years ago. It is a great place to come and find out about the work of the lifeguards and how to stay safe on the beach.
Although I have reached my target of 62 miles, I am keeping going with 2 miles until the end of May and hopefully beyond. Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me.

Bank Holiday Weekend!

Monday 27th May
My walking was limited this weekend to just keeping the mile going each day as I was lucky enough to visit the Hay-on-Wye literacy festival. However, Sunday I had a good steep 3 mile walk into Hay and back. Back to 2 miles a day this week and completing my 62 mile challenge.

Day 19 (17 & 18 too)

Monday 20th May
Days 17 and 18 were lovely but necessity walks. However, yesterday's walk was epic and absolutely beautiful. Starting in Helford and going to Frenchman's Creek. I have wanted to visit this area for some time and it absolutely didn't disappoint. Some good gradients to tackle too.

Day 16 - The River

Monday 20th May
A beautiful walk along the Gannel river - I think I saw an Egret.
This area has salt marshes where the fresh water meets the ocean.

Day 15 - Pre A Level Walk

Wednesday 15th May
I was lucky to have my youngest daughter accompanying me today. She is revising at the moment for her A Levels and took a well earned break from revision to join me. We popped in to see the volunteers at Fistral Lifeguard Visitor Centre.

Day 14 - The Gannel

Wednesday 15th May
A lovely dusk mile this evening, which took me past the beautiful Gannel.

Days 10 - 12

Monday 13th May
I had a busy weekend visiting my eldest daughter in Liverpool. However, I still managed to fit in the miles. These included: along Liverpool docks; through Liverpool, from one side of the city to the other, and Pentire Headland (when I got back) in search of the Northern Lights.
Back on home turf Day 13!

Day 9 - Fundraising

Thursday 9th May
This morning, my miles took me home from the RNLI Newquay Lifeboat Station where I attended the monthly fundraisers meeting. A meeting where lots of people are busy working hard to fundraise all year round.

Day 8

Wednesday 8th May
My walk took me through Newquay today busy running errands but still clocking up the miles.

Day 7 - A busy day

Tuesday 7th May
Today, a slightly shorter walk but still over the mile and I was busy volunteering at the RNLI Visitor Centre.  Back to the two miles tomorrow!

Day 6 Reached My Fundraising Target - Thank You!

Monday 6th May
The spring flowers are starting to come out, which makes my task all the more enjoyable. I want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who have sponsored me so far. I have surpassed my fundraising target. Now I am getting used to the two miles a day, I am going to challenge myself to get faster and faster!!

Day 5 - Woodland

Sunday 5th May
Golitha Falls - this was a shorter distance but more challenging with some steep paths. A lovely woodland path with all the bluebells out.

Day 4

Saturday 4th May
Today was a slower paced mile with the family, which was lovely. It is a special day as it is a year since my operation. A beautiful sunset finish to the day.

Day 3 - Home Turf

Friday 3rd May
Today I covered just over two miles across Fistral and to the top of Towan Headland. It was a lovely sunny day with the beach being used by many and kept safe by the lifeguards throughout the day.

Day 2

Friday 3rd May
Today, my mile took me to Newquay harbour, where the RNLI Lifeboat station is situated. Two Inshore lifeboats (D and B class) are located at this station and manned by the brave volunteer crew.

My first and most special walk!

Wednesday 1st May
My first mile was to Pentire Headland. A very special place to me. Looking over my right shoulder you can see Fistral and to my left Crantock. Although a beautiful beach, Crantock can be a dangerous place with unstable sand dunes and the Gannel where fresh water meets salt water. Both beaches are manned by lifeguards throughout the holiday season.

My First Walk

Wednesday 1st May
This is my favourite place and a very special walk, which always brings me happiness and calmness.

It all starts tomorrow!

Tuesday 30th Apr
I am very excited to begin my challenge tomorrow. Not only will it be supporting the fantastic charity that is the RNLI, but the walking will help me to continue my quest back to fitness.
Thank you to all those that have supported me so far.
