How your support helped the RNLI in 2024

437 Lives saved

25,327 People aided by lifeboat crews and lifeguards

9,141 Lifeboat launches

I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

A silent but powerful trust.

Saturday 18th Apr

There’s something about Cornwall that feels like coming home. The endless stretch of coastline, the soft sand beneath our feet, the rhythm of the waves that seems to slow everything down.

After spending every Summer there as a child and now taking my own children to Cornwall, our yearly trips there have become more than just holidays. They’ve become a tradition rooted in happiness, freedom and importantly, a deep sense of safety. And at the heart of that feeling is the RNLI.

If you’ve ever spent time by the sea, you’ll know how quickly it can turn unpredictable. The same ocean that invites paddling, surfing and rock pooling can shift in moments. As a parent, that awareness never quite leaves you. Yet, despite that, I’ve always felt reassured knowing that the RNLI is there, watching, ready and unwavering in their commitment to saving lives.

Over the years, we’ve witnessed several rescues. Some were subtle, a lifeguard wading out to help someone struggling in the surf. Others were more urgent, the kind that make your heart race as you realise something has gone wrong. All were a reminder that while the sea is to be respected, there are extraordinary people ready to respond when needed.

Sennen Cove was one of our favourite family spots growing up. Not just for its beauty but for the lifeboat station too. We’ve spent countless hours there, often timing our visits just right so we might catch a launch. There’s something unforgettable about watching the lifeboat being released into the water, the crew moving with calm precision, each person knowing exactly what to do before the water surges around the boat. It’s not dramatic in a theatrical sense, it’s purposeful, practiced and deeply inspiring.

Those moments have shaped how we see the RNLI. They’re not just an organisation; they’re a constant presence in the background of our holidays, quietly ensuring that families like mine can enjoy the sea with confidence. They represent courage, dedication and community spirit, values that feel increasingly rare and incredibly important.

That’s why I’ve chosen to raise money for them.
It didn’t feel like a difficult decision. When you realise how much you’ve benefited from something, especially something you didn’t have to ask for, it naturally makes you want to give back. The RNLI relies heavily on donations and the idea that these rescues, these lifesaving moments, are made possible by generosity from people like us is both humbling and motivating.

For me, fundraising is a way of saying thank you. Thank you for the unseen hours of training. Thank you for the readiness at all times of the day and night. Thank you for the reassurance that allows me to watch my children run into the waves with excitement instead of fear.

Cornwall will always be special to us. The memories we’ve made there are tied to sunshine, sand and sea, but also to something deeper: a sense of trust. Trust that while the ocean is vast and powerful, we are not alone in it.
And every time we return and every time we see that lifeboat ready and waiting, I’m reminded why supporting the RNLI matters so much.
