I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Day 9 - journey home

Sunday 19th May
Another day when my mile was completed in train stations and airports. Spotted these lovely allotments from the train to Frankfurt. I’m looking forward to getting back to mine.

Day 8 Erfurt

Sunday 19th May
My last full day in the beautiful town of Erfurt. Full day at work, and then a lovely evening in the city enjoying a beer with an old friend before my return to UK.

Day 7 Erfurt

Tuesday 7th May
Another day in Erfurt. No photos today, so instead I’m sharing the night sky from my hotel room last night. Brisk walk tonight to a fabulous Lebanese restaurant after work.

Day 6 Erfurt

Monday 6th May
Another international mile or two. Today I’m in the beautiful city of Erfurt, in the German state of Thuringia. Here, Martin Luther, father of the Protestant Reformation was ordained in the cathedral of St Mary.

Day 5 Frankfurt

Sunday 5th May
I’m making up for a weak start, with over 4 miles today. Most of today’s miles have been around airports and train stations. I think I probably completed a mile at Frankfurt HB getting from one end of the train to the other. Remarkably my flight was on time, leaving me enough time to stroll down to the River Main to eat my lunch

Day 4 Knutsford Royal May Day

Saturday 4th May
Today’s mile included a visit to the Knutsford Royal May Day parade, including the very appropriate’Grace Darling’ float.

RNLI Saving lives

Monday 29th Apr
Every week I see the work the RNLI in Whitby are doing. The volunteers risk their lives to save others. Training, false alarms or real emergencies.

I’m walking a mile a day in May to raise funds for the RNLI. Please support me if you can.
