I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers
My Dad passed away in 2019 (75 Yrs old) from a very sudden and short diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer. In 2019, Mum came across the RNLI Launch a Memory and I have been adding Dads name to the Shannon class all-weather lifeboats within LaM. I have become a moderator on a social media platform for supporters of LaM.
Last June/July I started volunteering in my local RNLI
shop as I was feeling the lack of socialisation since starting to work from
home, plus missed doing volunteering activities which I usually arranged for a group of colleagues at my workplace.
The shop happens to be attached to the lifeboat station so I would sometimes see activity behind me whilst volunteering in the shop, on occasion a launch and that got the adrenaline going and I then wanted to be involved more but didn’t know how as didn’t think I’d be a worthy candidate due to some health issues, little did I know!! I am now Shore Crew (in training) too!!
So yet again, I support a team of people, pretty much as I have done all my working career, except this one is voluntary!
In addition to my money raised, my workplace will
donate £150.

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.
During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.
