How your support helped the RNLI in 2024

437 Lives saved

25,327 People aided by lifeboat crews and lifeguards

9,141 Lifeboat launches

We’re taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Day 23

Sunday 24th May

A 4 mile walk to the next village for a lovely lunch in the sun! This was the children's idea! Tom luckily drove ahead and parked the car at the pub and then walked back to meet us as there would have been no way that their legs would have managed on the way back without substantial moaning! We did this walk about 6 weeks ago when it was bluebells all the way!

Home for a play in the garden and an ice cream!

Day 21 and Day 22

Saturday 23rd May

Day 21: was a walk home the long way via the park before going out to watch friends in a show! 🤩

Day 22: As I don't work on a Friday, we had a longer time to complete out Mayday mile (or 2) before school with a lovely, sunny cycle around a near by cul-de-sac!

Now school and work are finished for the half term break, completing this challenge will become much easier!

Day 20

Thursday 21st May
A lovely 2 mile cycle after school. Harry’s learnt how to start on his bike without being helped. ‘Mummy, I’m a pro now. I don’t need any help!’ His next aim is a wheelie…. 😂 We spotted Guinea fowl, a cow-y horse (a horse with cow patches!) and a three-legged pug called Tripug!

Day 19

Thursday 21st May
A soggy walk to school with Tom. Sports Day was cancelled due to the bad weather so I went off to work and the children walked to school a bit later.

Day 18

Tuesday 19th May
Today was another walk/cycle to and from school. Harry’s carrying a toothbrush box because it was vital that we picked up a very dead bee to take it to an animal hospital to make better. He kept hold of this box for the majority of the day…  😂 H and then went to a model village before a swimming lesson!

Day 16 and 17

Monday 18th May
The children had a weekend away.
On Saturday, they walked around Marwell Zoo while T and I walked an 8 mile round trip for a delicious pub lunch half way. On Sunday, they walked to Winchester and visited Wolvesey Castle and back along the river spotting swans on their nests. They came back absolutely shattered 😂

Day 15

Saturday 16th May
Walking too and from school day today! We didn’t do a specific walk/ride today but the walk each way (and back for Harry!) we soon managed this.

Day 14

Friday 15th May
We cycled for a couple of miles again before bedtime. The heavens opened not long before but we timed it well and it was such a clear evening! The children are cycling so well now and getting further and further up each hill!

Day 13

Thursday 14th May
We’ve cycled, scooted and run almost 40 miles and we’re not quite half way. Today, after school (and work) we cycled a new route around the village!

Day 11 and 12

Tuesday 12th May
Both rides too and from school. Squeezing in a mile (or two) before breakfast club on the days I work is a bit of a challenge but the children are still really motivated to get ready on time to complete their challenge. So we’ve been able to leave home at 7.15 to do it and enjoy the sunshine! ☀️

Day 10

Monday 11th May
4.5 mile cycle ride (and swimming lessons!) there were lots of hills which they managed really well and the both enjoyed picking elderflower (Annie and I made cordial when we got home)
Finally, we tired them out so I managed to cook dinner in peace ✌️

Day 9

Sunday 10th May
2/3 just before bedtime ride for Harry and I! He did the big loop but even wanted to do the big, big loop… so maybe a Sunday job! So nice to be getting out in the evening!

Day 8

Saturday 9th May
After dinner before bedtime big loop! The children wanted to do a big ride which they did really well despite it being very hilly.

Day 7

Friday 8th May
After school walk down and back up the road to look for bugs, horses and flowers! It ended up being quite late in the day but the children really enjoyed it, once Annie got over the fact it wasn’t a cycle!

Day 6

Thursday 7th May
This morning, the children cycled and I walked them to school. Harry came a cropper… whoops! But luckily it was quite slow motion but a little shaken as it was on a pavement along the road. Another couple of scrapes to add to the collection… 🫣

Day 5

Thursday 7th May
A race too and from the shop to post a late birthday card (and pick up a coffee!!) before work and school.

Day 4

Thursday 7th May
A quick cycle around the block before heading to the coast for a family walk to the beach and back! 5 miles walked and cycled

Day 3

Thursday 7th May
Cycle around the block! Children did really well on their bikes on the roads around our house which are hilly! Quick pitstop at the shop.
They spent the afternoon with Tom at the farm park so lots more running and walking!

Day 2

Saturday 2nd May
Bike ride from Poole to Whitecliff Park and back! First proper ride for Harry on his new bike without crashing into a blackthorn hedge! We walked, chased cycled 2 miles there and back with a pitstop at the park!

Day 1

Friday 1st May
Quick pre school run around the block in the sunshine! Children excited to do their run… hopefully the excitement continues!

Why we’re doing the May Day Mile

Sunday 26th Apr
We’re raising money this May to support Harry’s favourite charity the RNLI which is a charity very close to our hearts- daddy’s job plus lots more connections. Please support us walking/scooting/cycling one mile each day this May!
