I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Why I’m taking this on

Friday 1st May

There is something powerful about having a clear, simple goal. That is exactly why the May Miles campaign stands out. It is not complicated, it does not require elite performance, and it meets you wherever you are in your running journey. You simply commit to moving more throughout May. But behind that simplicity sits something far more meaningful.

This year, I am using May Miles as a way to rebuild my running. Not to chase times or prove anything, but to get back to a level that feels like me again. Consistency has slipped, and like many runners know, getting back into rhythm can be harder than starting from scratch. A structured but flexible challenge like this removes excuses. It gives each day a purpose, even if that just means getting out for a steady few miles.

What makes this challenge more than just personal, though, is its connection to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Every mile can contribute towards supporting crews who volunteer their time to save lives at sea. It is easy to overlook how essential that work is, especially living near the coast where their presence quietly underpins safety every day.

The RNLI relies heavily on public support. Campaigns like May Miles turn individual effort into collective impact. Whether you run, walk, or mix the two, you are helping fund training, equipment, and lifesaving missions. That adds a different weight to each session. A run is no longer just about fitness; it becomes part of something bigger
