I’m taking on the Mayday Mile challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

A year ago, my son and his girlfriend moved to Somerset, just 30 minutes from the coast.  They love walks with their dog along the beaches and costal paths, so I thought that doing a mile a day for the RNLI was a good option, especially as it's probably less well supported than the Cancer or Alzheimer charities running similar events.  I also felt that the unpredictable weather we are experiencing this year probably means that the RNLI services are going to be used more than ever, with people genuinely being caught out.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Last Mile

Friday 31st May
Thanks to all my supporters - those that have kindly donated and those that have helped me to keep going.  I have managed to complete 40 miles over and above my normal activity, so I am very pleased.  I also managed to do at least a mile every single day of May, even when on holiday. A mix of dog walking and golf to finish off this challenge today was a lovely ending.

Somerset

Thursday 30th May
Sorry I've been a bit quiet the last few days, but I've been down in Somerset doing lots of activities.  Plenty of walking, playing golf and a lot of steps - up and down Jacob's Ladder.

Dog Walking

Wednesday 22nd May
Lots of dog walking this week, which has been fun, apart from in the rain today!!

Dog Walk

Sunday 19th May
Helping out a relative with dog walking - mainly in circles!!!

brisk walk

Monday 13th May
Not much time today as I am off to have two golf lessons, so just a brisk walk around the fields and up the drive

camper

Sunday 12th May
Yesterday I walked to my parents to borrow their camper for a quick trip, at short notice, down to Somerset.  Today I had the reverse trip when I took the camper back to them!!  We had a lovely evening with fabulous company and amazing food and drink.

Hayfever!!

Sunday 5th May
I have managed to walk a mile today, despite all the flowers and grass cuttings doing their best to stop me!!

Golf again!!

Saturday 4th May
What a beautiful day.  With the sun shining I decided to play golf again, although it was extremely wet under foot after yesterday's rain

Wet Walking

Friday 3rd May
The weather was not nice today, but I still managed to walk 2 miles, whilst playing golf, in the rain!  I definitely wouldn't have been out today without this challenge!

Second Mile Complete

Thursday 2nd May
It was very windy today.  Trying to cycle on the grass, uphill, was hard work.  A very small effort though in comparison to what the crews of the RNLI boats put themselves through.
