Making progress

Tuesday 12th May
Walked a mile and a half today (2.5km) and noticed that my average pace per kilometre is now just under 9 minutes.

Not sure I actually feel fitter but it's progress, I guess.

On the money side, that's been static for a while now at £104 so I could really do with some lovely folk adding to the total.....

One week in

Friday 8th May
Delighted to say that, after one week of daily walks, I've covered 9 miles already in 7 days - slightly ahead of target (although I've set my target to 32 miles even though only 31 days in May).
I'm really encouraged that I've already reached 40% of my financial target.
Thank you to all who have donated already.
To anyone who hasn't but wants to - there's still plenty of time.

Saving lives at sea

Saturday 25th Apr
I found out some information this week which, frankly, shocked me – but which underlines just how vital every donation is when it comes to the business of saving lives at sea.

To provide the basic kit worn by an RNLI lifeguard on a beach (wetsuit, binoculars etc) costs around £500. For lifeboat crew that rises to £3,600 plus another£1,360 to cover training costs – then there’s the lifeboat itself.

A D-class inshore lifeboat like the one pictured costs over £100k and for the latest all weather lifeboat (Shannon class) it’s £2.8m

All of this underlines how much your support is vital so that these brave volunteers can carry on doing what they do so well 365 days a year.

Yes, it costs a lot, but what price do you put on even one life saved‽

Closer to May Day

Monday 30th Mar
As March draws to a close I'm watching the weather, hoping it will at least stay dry with not too many April showers, so I can get lots of practice miles logged ahead of May 1st.

I'm determined to reach, or even surpass, my 31 mile target after having to pull out of The Reindeer Run back in December.  The RNLI are an amazing bunch of people and truly deserve all our support.

I'm taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers!

Wednesday 25th Mar

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

You may wonder why the RNLI, when I live in the middle of the country, but as you can see from the pic, when I do get the chance to visit the coast even taking photos involves getting my feet (sometimes more) wet.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

The RNLI aren't just there for when people fall overboard from boats, or when a trawler is in trouble; a lot of the rescues carried out are people using the water for leisure - swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking...  (taking photos?)

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Thank you to my Sponsors
