Charlie is taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

Hello. Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I’ve joined the ‘RNLI Mayday Mile’ challenge.  I will be cycling and walking as may miles as possible this month, to raise as much money as I can for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI).

“You will see RNLI Lifeguards at the coast and on the beaches. They help keep us safe when we’re swimming and surfing and doing other water sports. They also help anyone or any boats which need rescuing and help at sea. I’m doing this challenge to raise money, so they can keep looking after us all.”

If you would like to donate (any amount) to my RNLI Mayday Mile fundraising challenge, I’d be very grateful. Thank you in advance, for your support and donations.

Charlie

Month of May - my daily walk to school

Monday 1st Jun
May was a super short month at school, because of inset days, bank holidays and half term. I’ve totalled up 2.8 miles in my daily walks to/from school.

Day 11 - Day 15 (Monday 11 - Friday 15 May) walking to the pool each day

Monday 1st Jun
I had a week of school swimming lessons. 0.6 miles to the pool (1.2 miles for the return trip) x 5 days = 6 miles of walking.

Day 31 (Sunday 31 May 2026)

Sunday 31st May
Today I was cycle (BMX) racing. I cycled 6 practice laps, 3 motos and a final. My total race mileage was 2.124 miles! Another hot and pretty dusty day cycling - which was a lot of fun.

Day 29 (Friday 29 May) - Lots of hours on my bike & meeting the beach lifeguards

Sunday 31st May
I spent many hours on my bike today and was happy to have completed a leisurely and fun 6.3 miles.
After all the cycling, I then went to say hello and introduce myself to the beach lifeguards. They're so incredible. They chatted and showed me a lot of the lifesaving kit they have and talked about the types of things the fundraising money goes onto pay for. I also had the opportunity to help out with keeping an extra look out - using the spare binoculars and making sure everyone was safe on the beach and sea. I feel really proud of all the miles I have pedalled and fundraising for such a great charity.

Day 28 (Thursday 28 May) - Clocking up some great miles today!

Sunday 31st May
Today I was back on my bike doing the Camel Trail. It was a slightly cooler (but still hot), which made the trail pretty busy. I managed a mighty 26.02 miles and kept cool by having my mid-way river paddle. I actually repeated a few sections of the trail, as I went back to see a steam train arrive, so that helped increase my mileage! It was a lot of hard work today, but I still enjoyed it.

Day 27 (Wednesday 27 May 2026)

Sunday 31st May
A rest today after cycling in a heat wave yesterday (26 May). Looking forward to doing more bike miles tomorrow (28 May!!)

Day 26 (Tuesday 26 May 2026) - A great day cycling!

Wednesday 27th May

Today, I cycled in 30°+ heat! It was absolutely scorching hot! Thank you so much to the kind couple I met along the Camel Trail who sponsored me and donated to the RNLI. I really appreciated the extra sponsorship, as it kept me peddling all day! Thank you.

I cycled a total of 21.02 miles!

Luckily there was a lot of shaded sections to the ride, and I made sure I drank lots of water and ice cold milk to keep me hydrated. I even kept extra cool by paddling in a River Camel mid-way along my ride! A great day for getting a few more miles added.

Day 25 (Monday 25 May)

Tuesday 26th May

Today, was a hot, hot day. After walking in the heat just over a mile, I then spent my afternoon on my bike. Today’s total mileage was a scorching hot but leisurely 2.5 miles.

Day 24 (Sunday 24 May) Racing in the heat

Tuesday 26th May

I felt like I was melting today as I had to wear my full body armour for my bmx racing. It was a fun but hot day at Cornwall BMX Track.

7 practice laps, 3 racing moto laps and 1 race final.  That’s an extra 2.73miles added to the RNLI challenge mileage.

A great day of bike racing and increasing my total milage for my RNLI challenge! Feeling very happy with today’s hot mileage.

Day 23 (Saturday 23 May) - Pedalling Playtime

Tuesday 26th May

Spent some fun time pedalling today. 2.1 miles on my bike. It was too hot to doing much more. Pleased to have added to my RNLI mileage.

Day 19 (Tuesday 19 May) - Riding Through the Rain!

Tuesday 19th May

Not even a torrential rainstorm could stop this challenge!

A massive thank you to our amazing school community for cheering me on and donating.

Between our coin collection and online donations, we raised an amazing £40.36 at today’s after-school roller bike event!

I honestly wasn't sure if the event could even happen when I looked out the window at 3pm and saw a river of rain gushing down the path! Thankfully, it eased up just in time to get pedalling.

My challenge was to cycle 31 miles in 31 days and to raise £100. I am so excited to share that so far I've cycled 86 miles and raised over £217 (+gift aid)!

I’ll be finishing my RNLI Mayday Mile challenge on May 31st and will share my grand totals then.

Thank you all so much for your incredible support!

Day 18 (Monday 18 May) - Tired but didn't quit

Monday 18th May

School term is almost done and my energy battery is running low. Training tonight was super tough, but I pushed through. I ended up cycling 15.8 miles!  Now refuelling with lots of yummy food and doing my homework.

Day 17 (Sunday 17 May) - Feeling inspired and on my bike again!

Sunday 17th May
After this morning's inspiring visit to the local lifeboat station, I couldn't wait to jump back on my bike and get some more miles added to my current total. I cycled just over 7 miles and was on my bike for 1.5 hours over some steep terrain. A really good ride.

Although I accidently switched my Garmin to indoor mode instead of mountain bike (outdoor mode) so it didn't record correctly. Won't make that mistake again... But I know how many laps of the different coloured MTB routes I did, so we have been able to work it out. Phew.

Day 17 (Sunday 17 May) - Meeting the crew at the local lifeboat station

Sunday 17th May

I took some biscuits along to the local lifeboat station for the crew early this morning to say a big, big thank you! 🍪 They are volunteers and are absolutely amazing.

They were heading out training - so I got to see the boat being launched. They then very kindly invited me come inside the station to look around. I got to see where the donation money goes!

The crew kit was really very heavy, but it's all so important for when they are out in horrendous weather saving lives. It’s got to keep the crew safe as well. Thank you so much for showing me around.

Did you know it costs £190.3 million every year to run the RNLI? That is so much money! 🤯 It all comes from people fundraising and donating. Thank you for your donations!

They have 238 lifeboat stations and lifeguards on 238 UK beaches to keep us safe. Training the crew and keeping the boats ready costs a lot, but they save so many lives! 🌊🛶

This morning's visit really inspired me to spread the word about the RNLI and to continue to raise as much money as I can.  (More pics in my galley below)

Day 16 (Saturday 16 May) It's been a good, good day.

Saturday 16th May
This morning I jumped on my bike again. The weather forecast was rain showers but luckily for me it only started raining once I finished cycling! I did 7.84 miles today. I'm feeling really happy to have increased my mileage again today and for my fundraising amount to still be going up. It's been a good, good day. Thank you all for your support.

Day 15 (Friday 15 May)

Friday 15th May
A lovely leisurely cycle ride around the local area after school this evening. I managed to dodge the heavy rain showers and even paused my riding briefly to help some Canada Geese and their ever so fluffy goslings (brood) cross the road safely. Tonight I've added 4.44miles onto my challenge mileage.

Day 14 (Thursday 14 May) 'Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming...'

Thursday 14th May
I have been swimming a lot this week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today! I've worked out my total distance swam this week is 1 mile. I'm feeling very proud, that all my effort in the pool can go towards my grand fundraising mileage total! Thank you for your continued support. "Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming..."

Day 13 (Wednesday 13 May)

Wednesday 13th May
A busy evening of racing. So with all of my practice laps, motos and final, I have gained another 2 miles to my challenge mileage.

Day 11 (Monday 11 May)

Monday 11th May
Tonight I have been cycling for 2hours. I've cycled 19.42miles! This brings my current fundraising mileage to just over 49miles and smashing my 31 mile target! I'm very proud of my progress to date. I'm now off to refuel with some food and get some sleep.

Day 10 (Sunday 10 May) - Update

Sunday 10th May
Thank you so much to everyone who has so far sponsored me and donated money to the RNLI. It's really appreciated. Thank you.

It's only day 10 of this month long challenge. I'm excited to see how many more miles I can achieve in the next 21 days.

Day 10 (Sunday 10 May)

Sunday 10th May

Another busy day on the bike today.

A great day of bike racing and increasing my total milage for my RNLI challenge!

Day 9 (Saturday 9 May) - Visit to RNLI Portishead

Saturday 9th May
A quick visit to see where the local RNLI Lifeboat Station was based down in Portishead. We could see the lifeboat in the station (through the windows) as luckily nobody needed help / rescuing today.

Day 9 (Saturday 9 May) - 2nd ride of the day!

Saturday 9th May
