I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Learning to walk again

Thursday 1st May
In celebration that I can again walk a mile a day, I have signed up for this challenge. Coming up in a few days 6 years ago, 10th May 2019 from a freak fall, I literally snapped my lower leg breaking it in multi places, an open fracture.

It was a long battle back to my now better than expected recovery, it took me about 3 years to be able to walk as far as a mile day and I have been walking ever since. Last summer one day I walked 10 miles which in the early days looked would never be possible again, or even honestly a mile was an ambitious early goal and every bit as difficult as my 72 England and GB Representations, including Seoul 88.

I actually started monitoring my walking 1st April and have averaged 2.3 miles a day last month, so I am confident despite walking with a stick this will be well within me.

I am raising money for RNLI, whom living by the sea I see in action regularly, saving craft, but more often inflatables drifted out to see and even quite often dogs, plus of course the fantastic RNLI Lifeguards saving many swimmers in difficulty all summer.

RNLI are entirely funded by charitable donations and do amazing valuable work saving lives. The magnificent volunteers do phenomenal and brave work. Hats off to them and please support.
