I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

Having watched Saving Lives at Sea on the TV highlights the important role that the RNLI plays all over the UK and Ireland.

As such, when we've been on holiday the family has always called into one of the many RNLI gift shops and supported them by buying something, especially my Mum.

Also, we have a number of names of loved ones added to lifeboats via the Launch a Memory that the RNLI runs, my Mum being the most recent.

So in their memory and to honour the sacrifice of those who serve in the RNLI make to save lives at sea, I have chosen to take part in this fundraiser.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

What the RNLI means to me

Thursday 27th Mar
All through my childhood our family holidays have more or less been in the UK and again later as an adult.
Mostly visiting Cornwall and the Isle of Wight as child, as such we would see the collection boxes. The ones where it made the lifeboat move or where you put the coins in to the larger ones where the coin would spiral around before dropping into the bottom.
Always fun to make a donation with these as a child.

As you grow up and get a greater understanding of what the RNLI is and what they do.
Especially more recently with Saving Lives at Sea on the BBC, really highlights the sacrifice the crews make and the extents they go to when saving lives at sea.

Holidays to Cornwall, Devon and also North Norfolk became the destinations as an adult for the family,
Mainly so the dog could run on the beach, he always knew when we were near to Black Rock Beach near Bude.
A holiday wouldn't be complete without a visit to an RNLI shop, a good place to pick up souvenirs of the trip and supporting the RNLI.
Also, my Mum always had an eye out for anything that would make a good Christmas gift and their keyrings were a good stocking filler item for me.

The Photo I have added is from 2018 when we were on Hunstanton Beach and got to see the Hovercraft go out on a shout, having spent time looking at it and talking with the crew earlier.
