I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Day 31/31

Saturday 31st May

Run 31/31 ✅🎉

The final day

The final 3 miles

The final run

Completed

I have officially completed the MayDay Mile 2025.

75 miles logged and almost £500 raised for the RNLI.

I cannot thank those of you who donated enough. It's all going towards a fantastic group of people who volunteer their time to save countless lives at sea.

Watch this space for next years MayDay Mile 2026, I already have big plans on how to go even further.

Day 30

Friday 30th May
Run 30/31 ✅

The penultimate run has been completed...
Another 5k/3 miles in the bag

Just one more day to go and the challenge is finished.

Day 29

Friday 30th May
Walk 29/31 ✅

A walk to sailing races tonight logged in the usual 1.5miles.

2 more days to go!

Day 28

Wednesday 28th May
Sleeping in and working late resulted in no time to get to the gym, so it was a short walk with the pup tonight, who spent the entire time attacking my friends legs (sorry Jordan).

Certainly not our longest... Or fastest walk to date, but 1 mile logged regardless.

Day 27

Wednesday 28th May
Run 27/31 ✅

Completed my longest indoor run to date.
7 Kilometers / or 4.35 miles.

Definitely wanting to make up for all the lost miles of the past couple weeks due to injury.

Only 4 more days to go!

Day 26

Monday 26th May
Run 26 ✅

Today has seen rain and shine, and more rain, and hail and repeat.

So stayed indoors for todays 6k run (3.7 miles), I think I could have run for longer, but the treadmills only lets you use it for an hour at a time and the gym was getting pretty busy. So called it a day at 6k.

I cannot believe that you have all helped me raise over £400 for the RNLI. Thank you all so much.

Only 5 days left 🌟

Day 23, 24 and 25

Sunday 25th May
Run 23 and walks 24 and 25 ✅

It's been such a busy weekend. So I'm a bit behind on my updated.

But I managed to squeeze in 6.5 miles.
3 miles on Friday evening
1.5 miles on Saturday afternoon
And
2 miles on Sunday afternoon

Less than a week left of the challenge, let's see how many 5K's I can get in before Saturday

Day 22

Thursday 22nd May
Run 22/31 ✅

A nice walk from home to the sailing club to help out at the races tonight. Adding another 1.5miles to my total.

Day 21

Wednesday 21st May
Run 21/31 ✅

I have officially reached my distance goal of 50 miles. 🌟

Today I ran just shy of 5 miles running roughly the same route as I walked yesterday and boy do my legs feel it.

Everything from here onwards are bonus miles.

Day 20

Tuesday 20th May
Walk 20/31 ✅

Walked a different route around Stromness today and logged 6km with Jordan for company.

Getting so close to reaching my goal of 50k now.

Day 19

Monday 19th May
Walk & Run 19/31 ✅

It was another lovely day today took Finn out on a walk to the lifeboat and back before heading to the gym to try my first 5k in 8 days.

Smashed it... 12 more to go!

Day 18

Sunday 18th May
Walk 18/31 ✅

Another 3 miles logged.
Hopefully my final walk of the month 🤞
Looking to getting back to running tomorrow.

Day 17

Sunday 18th May
Walk 17/31 ✅

Today we took our 1 mile walk to a new location.

Fran, Finn and I walked along the beach at the Broch of Gurness, dipped our feet and soaked up the glorious sunshine.

Day 16

Friday 16th May
Walk 16/31 ✅

Still not feeling quite well enough to run just yet, so another we walk down to the lifeboat and back.

I'll hopefully get back to running soon 🤞

Day 15

Thursday 15th May
Walk 15/31 ✅

No running again today. 😥

So instead I took a walk out to the other end of Stromness tonight and watched the sailing boats race.

1.5 miles logged

Day 14

Wednesday 14th May
Walk 14/31 ✅

Had to slow things down today when an injury I picked up at the weekend got worse today.

But still managed to do the lap to the lifeboat and back.

I will hopefully get back to running tomorrow. I still have 20 more miles to run to reach my distance goal. 🤞

Day 13

Tuesday 13th May
Run / walk 13/31 ✅

Switched things up a little bit today and went back to week 1s lap to the Lifeboat and back home (because obviously I've injured myself)

So I ran one lap to the lifeboat and back home (1.3 miles)

Rustled up the tiny dog and walked another lap to the lifeboat and back home albeit as a much... much... slower pace (1.3 miles)

One more day and week two if officially complete.

Day 12

Monday 12th May
Run 12/31 ✅

I just got a notification that I have reached half way to my distance target.

When I set this fundraising page up, I set a goal of 50 miles and 12 days in... We are half way there!

Feeling so accomplished with what I have achieved so far, personally in my running and also in the money raised so far.

Plenty more miles and £'s to go, so let's not get too confident too soon.

Day 11

Sunday 11th May
Run 11/31 ✅

A change of location today, I did today's 3 miles indoors.

But we took wee Finn a walk down to the lifeboat to keep the trend going.

So we clocked in 4.5 miles in total today.

Day 10

Saturday 10th May
Run 10/31 ✅

Another run ticked off.
Another 3 miles in the bag.
The weather in Orkney has been lovely the last few days which have made the last few runs so enjoyable... And sweaty... And a wee bit wheezy.

Had you told me at the start of this year that I would be running almost 5k everyday and outdoors too, I would have cackled! But here we are and long may it continue

Day 9

Friday 9th May
Run 9/31 ✅

3 miles in 31 minutes in 16 degrees heat.
I won't say this running malarkey is getting any easier, but the endorphins are sure doing good work.

Day 8

Thursday 8th May
Run 8/31 ✅

Tried my best to up my game today. I aimed to run 3 miles this morning, but good lord Stromness has steep hills or water in every direction, so I only managed 2.5 miles.

I'll plan out a route and hopefully I manage to get a full 3 miles in over the next few days.

Maybe I will manage to run my first ever outdoor 5k next week... Pray for me and my poor shins 😂

Day 7

Wednesday 7th May
Run 7/31 ✅

Week 1 is officially complete!

Day 6

Wednesday 7th May
6/31 ✅

A day late update for day six, but another one in the bag. Later today, I will complete my day 7 run and that will be one full week completed.

I've got to up my game tomorrow to properly earn all these generous donations. I'm so very grateful to everyone who has donated so far.

Day 4 & 5

Monday 5th May
Run 4 & 5/31 ✅

Yesterday was so busy that I forgot to post my update... But trust me! I definitely ran. I clocked in a sea swim, my first ever sailing lesson and of course my 2k run.

The weather was so nice today, made this evening's run a joy, a sweaty wheezy joy 😂

Two more runs and week one is in the bag

Day 3

Saturday 3rd May
Run 3/31 ✅

Todays run was a teeny bit rubbish
It was windy (which definitely slowed me down)  and rainy (which I thought would keep me cool... It didn't) but we persevered in the name of fundraising.

Only 28 more to go.

Day 2

Friday 2nd May
Run 2/31 ✅

One more lap to the Stromness lifeboat and back completed. If you're interested, it takes two plays of Defying Gravity from the Wicked movie 😂

Day 1

Thursday 1st May
Run 1/31 ✅

Today I completed my first of thirty one runs.
It wasn't very far, nor was it very fast.... it was certainly not very pretty, but it's all for a good cause.
