I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers
This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.
During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.
By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.
Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Why I’m Walking a Mile a Day in May for the RNLI
Tuesday 22nd AprThis May, I’ve set myself a challenge: to walk at least one mile every single day. It’s not about getting fitter (though I’m sure that’ll be a bonus), or ticking off some big fitness goal — it’s about something a lot more meaningful. I’m doing it to raise money for the RNLI, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, whose volunteers risk their lives to save others at sea.
I’ve always admired the RNLI. Maybe it’s growing up visiting the coast, or just a deep respect for people who are willing to launch into dangerous waters, often in the dead of night, all to help complete strangers. They don’t get paid. They don’t expect thanks. They just do it because they care. That kind of bravery deserves support.
Why a Mile?
I’ll be honest — I wanted to set a goal that felt doable. Life’s busy. Some days I barely move from my desk. But a mile? That’s about 20 minutes. I can fit that in. I want to fit that in. It’s not a marathon. It’s not Everest. But it’s a small, daily promise I can keep — to myself and to the people who support me.
And the beauty of this challenge is that anyone can join in. You don’t need to be an athlete. You just need a pair of shoes and a bit of determination.
Making It Count
Each mile I walk, I’m thinking about the RNLI crews who never know when the next call will come. I’m also thinking about the people who don’t make it home without them. If my walk helps raise a little money, or even sparks a bit of awareness, it’s worth every step.
I’ve set up a fundraising page and I’ll be sharing my progress throughout May — the rainy days, the sunny ones, the “I really don’t want to do this” days, and the “I’m glad I did” ones.
If you can spare a pound or two, I’d be so grateful. And if you fancy walking a mile a day yourself, I’d love the company — even if it’s just in spirit.
Here’s to fresh air, small steps, and big-hearted lifeboat crews.
See you on the path.
Well done, great cause!!! xxxxx
