Tower Run 2025

RNLI Tower Run 2025

The sea is a place for exploration and adventure. But the sea can turn deadly within an instant. If you get into difficulty, who is there to help you?

The RNLI is there to help you.

The beach is the perfect place for fresh air and family fun. But the sea is unpredictable and can take you by surprise. If you get into difficulty, who is there to help you?

The RNLI is there to help you.

The Event:

The RNLI Tower Run is the UK's tallest stair climb challenge, with runners tackling over 1,500 steps whilst raising money to support the RNLI's lifesaving work in London and along the UK coastline.

On Saturday, 25th October at 9 am, the challenge to claim the stairs of the City of London's tallest building, 22 Bishopsgate, begins. Yes, 9 am. The time of the day when it's hard enough to climb out of bed, let alone 58 floors! Will you help give me the motivation I need by donating to my fundraising page?

Who are the RNLI?

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is the charity that saves lives at sea. In fact. They’ve saved over 146,000 lives saved since its founding in 1824.

As a charity, separate from the coastguard and independent from government, RNLI are reliant on voluntary donations to power their lifesaving work. They are committed to being one of the most efficient charities in the UK and Ireland.

The Hard Facts

-          223 people die by accident at UK coasts per year.

-          10,734 people were aided by RNLI lifeboat crews in 2023.

-          Males over the age of 15 are most at risk.

-          19,979 people aided by RNLI lifeguards in 2023.

Search and Rescue:

Powered by kind donations, their 24-hour search and rescue service has rescued people from capsized boats, saved people from rip currents, and even helped during wartime evacuations. The sea is a wonderful place to spend some time and have some fun, yet it can be a deadly place and catches everyday people and experienced sea farers off guard all too often. Thanks to RNLI we can rest assured that there is a lifeline, someone willing to help those in need. Thanks to public donations, we can rest assured that this continues to happen.

Lifeguards:

RNLI lifeguards have been patrolling beaches since 2001. They share safety advice, provide first aid to those who need it, and save the lives of those who get in trouble in the water. Their proactive approach is shown by the millions of preventative actions they carry out each year.

In 2024, they carried out over 2M (2,349,150) preventative actions. In addition, they attended 13,135 incidents, helped 17,068 people, and saved 85 lives.

All of RNLI lifeguards are equipped not only with the best training but also the best equipment so that they can deal with any situation. This includes: inshore rescue boat (IRB), rescue watercraft (RWC) (like a jet ski), patrol vehicle, all-terrain vehicle (quadbike), rescue board, rescue tube, VHF radio, binoculars, first aid responder bag, and a defibrillator. All of this equipment is vital and it all adds up to an expensive bill. Donations are needed to cover these costs and keep lifeguards prepared for any event.

Advice and Education:

RNLI also offers detailed advice and education on how to be safe at sea. If you have a water-based activity, they have advice for you. They also offer advice on cold water shock, floating to stay alive at sea, and common risks of the sea. RNLI takes this advice into school classrooms, ensuring that children are aware of the potential risks at the beach, helping them to stay clear fo danger.

International Work:

Every other minute, someone in the world drowns. These are wasted lives. Preventable deaths.

Drowning is a silent epidemic that claims 300,000 lives every year, many of them children. But this leading killer isn’t getting the global attention it deserves.

The RNLI is working with global leaders, public health organisations and at-risk communities to help turn the tide. We want to make drowning prevention a priority worldwide and reduce this staggering loss of life.

By raising awareness, conducting research and testing interventions, RNLI can make a difference, working with our international partners and leaders, we’re helping communities most at risk of drowning with tailored, targeted interventions that will help stop these preventable deaths.

Why RNLI needs your help?

Battling the elements at sea with state-of-the-art equipment and covering as much of a call out area as possible to ensure that RNLI is there when they are needed requires donations. Please consider donating to this important cause.

RNLI has:

-          451 lifeboats and hovercrafts

-          238 lifeboat stations (you can visit them if you like)

-          5,700+ volunteer lifeboat crew members

Where you money goes:

Every pound and penny raised from the RNLI Tower Run will go towards equipping our volunteer lifeboat crews with the essential training, kit, boats and materials required to continue our lifesaving mission for years to come.

For every £1/€1 donated, 81% (81p/81c) is used to fund RNLI’s lifesaving activities. The remaining 19% (19p/19c) is used to generate funds so that RNLI can continue to their work.

It cost £191M/€221M to run the RNLI service in 2023. These running costs were divided up into the following areas:
