I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Getting there little by little

Saturday 17th May
I've taken rest days and breaks and I've been adding to my walking total little by little but unfortunately my little one is sick.
Sometimes I'm pushing them in the double bike cart buggy with two kids (50kg combined in weight) and I carry my youngest in a baby wrap sometimes in order to get up to the right walking speed and to increase my cardio-  Effectively a 20kilo back pack . I will get there!!!

Pushing the bike cart

Friday 9th May
I had an exhausting day on Thursday and I actually managed to do 5.24 miles just city walking. Not just that, I was pushing the bike cart for a lot of it (My husband tows it behind his bike with the kids in it. I just push it like a pram)
The kids are five and seven and honestly a bit big for it now but I had to get somewhere quickly and I don't drive so... I was pushing about 50 kg in luggage and kids at a brisk walk...
It truly is an amazing way to get places quickly in the city with kids if you don't drive. And it's a heck of a workout. And you can load it up with luggage at the back!
Unfortunately the tracker recorded 0.0miles as a workout, although it did do my overall steps....
However, it's Friday morning and I'm really exhausted so I'm going to try and take a bit easier today

Loch Fyne

Friday 9th May
I'm hoping before the end of the month to get back to Loch Fyne and do at least 1 mile paddling on the Loch (rather than walking beside it!)... Wish me luck!

Fit bit issues

Monday 5th May
Up I kind of messed up my Fitbit recording yesterday, firstly because I can't get it to sync with the RNLI website even if I disconnect and reconnect and secondly, I managed to pause my work out in the middle of the walk which meant only recorded 0.17 of a mile, although I'd gone much further so I decided to walk even further... 😂 I think it did about 3 mi on the 4th of May...

Getting started

Saturday 3rd May
Hello folks!
I'm Ali, and I'm looking forward to doing the Maydaymile and raising funds to maintain the vital protection the RNLI offers to  the people who live by and sail on our seas and waterways.
My grandfather Norman was a huge supporter of the lifeboats, and his name is now on the side of the Lois Ivan Shannon class life boat at Whitby - I'm so glad to continue to support them, even though he is now longer with us.
This is my first time using a fitness tracker and I'm hoping as well as raising money for a good cause, I can improve my health. Bear with as I try to get the Fitbit to update and log my walks  here for the log....😆
