Taking on the Reindeer Run challenge for RNLI lifesavers

RNLI supporters around the country will be donning their antlers and strapping up their hooves to run 24 miles – all to help keep RNLI volunteers safe this winter.

Freezing seas, numbing winds and sub-zero temperatures – would you fancy launching into that aboard a lifeboat? RNLI crews will be doing just that, battling the elements this winter to continue their mission to save every one.

Reindeer Runners will be raising money so they have everything they need to answer the call for help. Because no matter how harsh the winter weather might be, lifeboat crews will always launch to the rescue. I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me.

My Updates

Over and out…

Thursday 25th Dec
Today is Christmas Day and I’ve finished my challenge on 32 miles - my aim was 24 - and having exceeded my fundraising target for this great charity. This will be my last blog post and I won’t be adding my miles anymore. Thanks to everyone who donated. I’ve enjoyed the challenge. Merry Christmas! A xx

Done!

Thursday 18th Dec
Well, I’ve done it, 24 miles! It’s a bit of whimper rather than a bang because I still have a cold but delighted to be over the finish line. I don’t plan to stop, I’m going to see if I can ‘round up’ to 30 miles!

Cold stops play!

Tuesday 16th Dec
I seem to have caught a nasty cold. Thankfully because I’m so far ahead my miles (more than I thought I would be at this point) I’m able to rest. So nothing yesterday but maybe - hopefully! - a gentle mile today.

How I calculate distance at aqua.

Thursday 11th Dec
Ok, so if anyone is interested (and I’m not sure anyone is!) how do I calculate distance in an aqua session? And the answer is metres covered. My Garmin calculates the activity and records it on my phone. There are just under 1610 metres in a mile so the above picture shows how I calculate my distance each session to make sure I’m accurate!

Quicker than last week!

Soggy mile.

Wednesday 10th Dec
Over a mile in aqua today. I’m eating into my target and feeling good! Edited to add: managed another 2 miles with a lovely walk through the village!

Post aqua glow

Monday 8th Dec
Glad to get it done today and enjoyed my post-swim coffee!

More in the bank.

Thursday 4th Dec
So as well as the mile at the gym I managed another 1.5 miles today! Makes me believe I can do this. I need to try and bank more miles to make sure if I do get unwell, I don’t jeopardise the challenge.

First mile of the day…

Thursday 4th Dec
So I was well enough to train this morning and ended with a mile on the treadmill. Honestly, I would have liked a quicker time but I’ve still got a deep wheeze and my chest is a little sore so all things considered I’m proud of this. Can I do another mile before the end of the day..?

A harder day.

Wednesday 3rd Dec
Today I only just managed one mile. My asthma has been bad and although I had been planning to do a two plus mile walk, it wasn’t to be. Here’s hoping tomorrow is easier!

Here we go!

Monday 1st Dec
Today is the day the challenge starts! I’ve started early and did my first mile at aqua fitness. I made sure to calculate how much I covered during aqua before the challenge started and it’s just over a mile so I’m a mile down and raring to go! (I’ll also be doing outdoor walks and treadmill each week).

Wohoo!

Wednesday 5th Nov
So in a couple of days, I’ve exceeded my fundraising target and I can’t quite believe it. I am very grateful for every single pound that’s been donated and it’s got me fired up for the challenge in December. Thank you, thank you. Now to raise even more!

Let’s do this!

Monday 3rd Nov
So, it’s been a while since I’ve done a sponsored anything (8 years!) but I’ve decided to go for this. Why? Because I live on the coast and am regularly to be found in the sea! The RNLI are a vital service that saves and protects everyone that needs their help. They show incredible bravery and care not where someone comes from or what they look like.

I feel safer on beaches with RNLI lifeguards and know for friends with boats, or when we kayak, they are there if the worst happens. Plus it’s Christmas! What a lovely thing to aim for during the season of too much chocolate and champagne!

For avoidance of doubt, I wont be running! But I will be walking and hiking and would appreciate any donation whether large or small.

Thank you to my Sponsors
