Taking on the Reindeer Run challenge for RNLI lifesavers

RNLI supporters around the country will be donning their antlers and strapping up their hooves to run 24 miles – all to help keep RNLI volunteers safe this winter.

Freezing seas, numbing winds and sub-zero temperatures – would you fancy launching into that aboard a lifeboat? RNLI crews will be doing just that, battling the elements this winter to continue their mission to save every one.

Reindeer Runners will be raising money so they have everything they need to answer the call for help. Because no matter how harsh the winter weather might be, lifeboat crews will always launch to the rescue. I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me.

Day 24!

Wednesday 24th Dec
Last Day! Two short walks today, I hope that counts with a lovely meal with friends in between! So a lovely brisks one at 9am and then a walk around the village this evening to see all the lovely advent windows festooned in lights, toys and baubles. So that adds another 3.80 miles. All in all then 75 mile. I think my legs are shorter than they were...🤣. Thank you all for you sponsorship, support and words of kindness. Its not too late to add your contribution. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy and Healthy 2026 to you all.

Day 23

Tuesday 23rd Dec
A very merky morning. So strange not to be able to see The Tarrens across the water. I'd kind of like to go out in a blaze of glory but that's not going to happen I'm afraid, tomorrow isn't going to be any better. I just seem to have been busy and we have guests for lunch tomorrow who I don't think I can persuade to come out with me...mores the pity. I did just manage to break my 70 mile target, going out in all weather every day, today which I'd set myself. Considering the challenge originally was to do 24 miles in 24 day I think I didn't do too badly really. A huge thanks to all those who have sponsored me already trusting that I'd complete what I'd set out to do. All I need now is a bit more sponsorship. Please consider adding a bit to my funds.

Day 22, nearly there!

Monday 22nd Dec
Another lovely walk today in the woods close to home. There's so many different paths to be explored! I must admit to being quite tired today again, can't believe how different one day can be from the next. Maybe it's because I'm getting to the end!

Day 21

Sunday 21st Dec
Went out today well over dressed in anticipation of a brightcold day, how wrong can one get! Lovely though to have a bit of clear air so that the Llyn was visible. Only time for a very short walk mores the pity but tbh my legs really didn't like it today...just should have gone further and walked it off...🤣

Day 20

Sunday 21st Dec
A wonderful day to be out so took a leisurely stroll today along the beech. Lovely views and even a marsh harrier making its way up to Ynys Hir...fantastic.

Day 19

Friday 19th Dec
Tempus really fugitted today and before I knew it I was going out for my walk when really it was time to come home. The bonus however was that the day had well and truly rained itself out! The osteopath told me this morning to take it easy but that's a bit like a red rag to a bull tbh... stupid really as ive probably wasted the benefits of the yreatment. It was so nice out there I did 4.25miles! That means I'll be in the kitchen preparing food for Christmas this evening that I should have done this afternoon....hey ho....

Day 18

Thursday 18th Dec
Well I did say it would be a short one.....🤣 Up and at it earlier today!

Day 18

Wednesday 17th Dec
A tad wet but really lovely walking into the dusk and on a route I've not been on for some time. So pleased to feel fit enough and confident enough to tackle the more tricky sections and not have to stick to the tarmac. Two weeks of persistent walking is paying dividend. Think I might sleep tonight with all those lovely views going through my mind. I love it up there towards the hills up on Braich Coch (the red arm) the local common. It really is red this time of the year. A short one tomorrow morning as a good lunch with friends beckons.

Day 16

Tuesday 16th Dec
A quiet short one today. A bit of a shame but time seemed a bit short today!

Day 15

Monday 15th Dec
Not sure it was a good idea to walk that far in my wellies. Necessary footwear today to cope with all the mud but not good for my Morton's neuroma, oh boy was I glad to get them off...that'll learn me. So today I finally cracked the 3 miles with 4.26 (well if you don't count the 6 I did Saturday). That takes me to 48 miles walked since the 1st. I'm feeling a bit proud also very grateful I have the stamina and health to do it! It's never without discomfort I may add, walking for some reason is never easy for me but isn't that the point of the challenge anyway....get our of my comfort zone.

Day 14

Sunday 14th Dec
Another grey day but I managed to get back before getting too wet. Everyone keeps going on about how bad the weather is but this is only the third time I got rained on since I started this. There's always something out there to cheer the day anyway. Horrified though to see someone has chopped down my most favourite tree, not as if there's not enough coming down with the wind....

Day 13.

Saturday 13th Dec
Wow, 6.04 miles! Over half way now and it looks like a bit of an easy day yesterday paid dividend today. I think too a change of scenery and having company helped. I'm trying not to think too much about tomorrow!

Day 12

Friday 12th Dec
A quiet walk today to go with the weather.

Day 11

Thursday 11th Dec
Up and at it early this morning as I was meeting friends for Christmas lunch at Newmans, and lovely it was - good thing I burnt off a few calories! Hard work though as everything seemed to want to ache and morale is a bit low despite the welcome sunshine. There were more trees down in the woods making it slow going so I think I'm going to have a quiet day tomorrow rather than keep pushing on, just be content with a mile or two, my Fitbit will be pleased! 🤣

Day 10

Wednesday 10th Dec
That nearly didn't happen today! Set out with all good intention, as you do, to walk after my strint at the shop but plans to meet a friend shifted!  Instead of going at 1.30pm we didn't start away until 3pm  so really only left us an 1hr before dark. Hey ho we still manage the ubiquitous 3 mile, a miliage I seem to have got stuck on, I must push the bounds on that...hummm
Very few pictures today....too busy talking....

Day 9

Tuesday 9th Dec
Well I exceeded my original milage target of 24 mile today!  Very tempted to have a day off tomorrow but I won't do that never fear. I've just added a few more to the target value. I'm keeping on ''troshing'' as they say in Norfolk and I will do until 24th Dec. I could do with a bit more sponsorship tbh, I'm 99th in the leader board, please spread the word. Thanks to all those who have sponsored me already. Xxx

Day 8

Monday 8th Dec
Well again a quiet one today. Pretty tired after my early morning aerobics class followed by a strenuous pilates session tbh. I had to post some Christmas cards so thought I'd explore Bow Street and the woods there. The wood was lovely but for a couple  of poor fallen trees making a rather muddy patch. I'm within  one mile of my original goal of 24 miles  but I intend keeping going...out everyday to Christmas. I wonder if the tech here will accommodate that? Again my fitbit let me down as far as the download so again a lovely picture of my wrist is offered.

Day 7

Sunday 7th Dec
A definite welly day today and still raining despite the Weatherman saying it would clear.ha ha. Having some issues with my Fitbit downloading a picture with the data so you'll have to make do with a pic direct from my watch today. Week one completed and I do admit to being a bit tired but I'm sure I'll perk up again next week.

Day 6

Saturday 6th Dec
Well my  Fitbit told me to take it easy today so I had a lovely stroll along the prom. Well, if you can call being pebble dashed with salt spray from the raging sea. Very refreshing actually!  Still managed another 3 mile though.

Day 5!

Friday 5th Dec
Glad I was up and out early this morning as the rain has really come though now! Again the mileage I've done really doesn't show the effort! Everywhere in and around Talybont is either up or down and I'm sure there's actually more up!

Day 4

Thursday 4th Dec
Day 4 of my RNLI Reindeer Challenge. Really enjoyed this walk today, up and around Talybont. The clouds were fantastic. The milage really doesn't indicate the amount of effort!  My pace was down as I kept getting stopped too!   Never-mind I did get out again and that's the point isn't

Day 3 but only a short one today

Wednesday 3rd Dec
A short walk today as its a bit of a busy one. I took the opportunity of walking around lovely Borth with a friend after my volunteer slot in the RLNI shop. Hey, two days of lovely weather in a row.....hushhhhh, don't tell the Weatherman..

Day 2, a better day

Tuesday 2nd Dec
What a diffferent day that was. At least tomorrow I'll be able to put dry boots on ho ho. It was so nice in fact I didn't want to go back in . So I've clocked up some extra miles today to compensate for what might be a busy day tomorrow, I'll just have time to scrape in a mile I expect.....!

Day 1

Monday 1st Dec
A tad wet...haha but that's the point. 2.47 miles, 6.277 steps in 58.47 mins.   A good start!

Thanks for your support

Tuesday 4th Nov
Hello there,

I don't have a dog to drag me out when it's wet, I stay snug inside. SO the real challenge for me will be going out in all weathers. I'll be walking with purpose and might even stretch that to a bit of a trot on the home straight!
