I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Week 3 complete 🫠

Sunday 25th May
My fundraising target has been achieved! A massive thank you to those who have contributed, it means so much 🥰. 
At the start of the week, I reached 50% of my target distance and now I'm close to my total. The weather has been good again up until this weekend and I'm not looking forward to getting drenched on next weeks walks 🌦🌩🌧⛈️🫤...

Halfway mark 🥰

Friday 16th May
Today marked the halfway point and I'm well on the way to achieving my target distance.
The past week has been busy with work and making sure I'm walking the miles. Thankfully the weather has been nice again.
£200,000 has been raised to date, which will help the RNLI provide essential training, equipment, and support for their brave volunteer crews.

Thursday 8th May
The week started in Lligwy with blue skies, glorious sunshine and beautiful surroundings. Walks took place around the Moelfre, Penmon, Lleiniog and Beaumaris area.
The week ended back in Manchester with grey skies, chilly wind and littered parks - wish people had more respect for their environment!
25% of my target has been achieved... woohoo, go me!

Why am I doing this?

Friday 21st Mar
I'm taking part in this challenge in memory of my Dad, who sadly passed away back in 2023 after a battle with cancer.  I will walk 75 miles over the course of the month, a mile for each year of Dad's life.
There isn't a day that passes where I don't think about him and all the kind-hearted things he did, not just for his family but for his friends and sometimes strangers too.
He had a love of the sea, sailing/boating, fishing and the RNLI, passing this love on to us. He would always visit the RNLI gift shops when visiting the seaside for holidays and day trips, purchasing pin badges, pens, notepads... the list goes on!
He unfortunately needed to be rescued by RNLI Beaumaris near Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey back in the early 2000s due to his yacht experiencing engine and rudder failure - he was so embarrassed, but that's the thing, he needn't have been, unexpected incidents/accidents happen and that's why the RNLI are hear to help. They do such a great job saving lives, most are volunteers dedicating their time in support - I would be standing there beside them if I didn't live in Manchester and I will do all that I can to help until the day comes where I am no longer around to do so!
Most of you already know, I too have experienced ill health over recent years and now I have the strength and physical ability to carry out this challenge so here we are, watch this space...
