I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Why the RNLI mile

Sunday 11th May
Growing up as a sailor by the sea, I’ve seen the incredible work of the RNLI.
I myself have been rescued!
Out on a race to Mostyn the wind picked up and the tide ran out. I was around 9 or 10 when the RNLI launched their boat and had their super cool hovercraft on standby and raced to find us half way down the Dee estuary. From the knowledge the RNLI have provided me from a young age I knew how to stay calm, I learnt to respect the water, I learnt that even if you do everything right, sticky situations can occur. In this case we were stuck in the mud. Not a crazy story but one where I felt safe to go back out on the water and try again because the RNLI was there.
Living by the sea is an incredible feeling. Even now as a wheelchair user I am ready to swim and with that comes an added worry sometimes despite all the precautions.
I’m pushing myself in finding my new limits and raising money for the RNLI who save lives everyday. A mile a day may not sound like a lot but with someone battling fatigue it’s proving difficult, alongside a broken feeding tube in my abdomen. I hope to gain strength and determination in completing goals. I may not be able to join the RNLI as I once wanted to growing up, but I hope to still support.
I hope you can help me reach my goal :)
