Clare's RNLI Swimming Fundraiser

By Clare Armstrong-Young

I’m fundraising for the RNLI to help power brave lifesavers to the rescue

On the 5th of October, the date The Royal National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck (previously The National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck) changed it's name to The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the wonderful RNLI we all know today, I will be swimming 64 lengths in the swimming pool.  This is 1.6km.

I have settled on this distance as its roughly the length of Cramond Causeway,  just somewhere local to me where RNLI have done a fair few rescues.

We've seen a lot in the news and on the socials recently about RNLI and I really want to show them that the majority of the population appreciate and support them.

Every day, around the coasts of the UK and Ireland, RNLI volunteers are kitting up to answer desperate calls for help. But they can’t launch to the rescue without support. The RNLI relies on donations to fund the kit and training volunteers need to save lives at sea and return safely home. I’m fundraising to help them stay ready to rescue.

Done!

Sunday 18th Oct
I know i was set to do this tomorrow, but I had a burst of energy this morning and this means I won't have to do it at the end of the working day. I hit a bit of a wall after 40 lengths so rested for a couple of minutes and took it a bit easier but thats 64 lengths and 1.6km done. Thank you all for supporting this cause.

Date change

Sunday 4th Oct
As some of you know, I have been rather poorly the past couple of weeks.  I was due to complete my swim tomorrow (5th October).   I have taken the decision to push it back by a fortnight to allow me to recover and be well again before undertaking the challenge. Thank you all for your understanding. X
