200 miles for 200 years
I'm walking a little over 200 miles of the SW Coast Path from Bude (on the North Cornwall border), past Land's End and Lizard Point to Falmouth - where I will hopefully arrive in time to join my shanty band "The Dockyard Dogs" (the official City of London RNLI Shanty Band) at the Falmouth International Shanty Festival.
The RNLI is now a little over 200 years old (founded in 1824) and so it is kind of like 1 mile for each year.
I'll hopefully pop into / have my photo taken outside some of the many RNLI stations en route.
Please give generously to this incredibly worthwhile charity.

Made it to Falmouth!
Thursday 11th Jun Yesterday I walked the final 11mi from Helford to Falmouth in time to be joined by the rest of the shanty crew for this weekend's Shanty Festival.
Land's End (and beyond!)
Friday 5th Jun A couple of days ago I made it to Land's End (symbolic point on the trail!). Now I'm heading back up the other side of the coast - reaching Penzance last night for vegan fish and chips (smoked tofu wrapped in seaweed and then battered...yum!).
Back on the Trail!
Friday 29th May Good evening all! Back on the trail for the past 2 days following the end of the extreme heat. Have made it down to Porthtowan (hopefully hitting St. Ives in two days time!). Mum and Dad have joined me for the past couple of days (which has been lovely) but I think they will be leaving me to it for tomorrow's 14mi stretch to Hayle.
3 days in and it's bloody hot!
Sunday 24th May Thanks to everyone who has kindly donated so far. A bit of an update from the past 3 days (I've traveled from Bude to Port Isaac [the home of the Fisherman's Friends shanty band... Very apt!]. The heat has made an already tough challenge even tougher. Today's leg from Tintagel to Port Isaac was described in my guidebook as one of the toughest on the entire trail and so it turned out to be. After exhausting my water supplies (about 4 litres), and with nowhere en route to refill, the relentless heat took its toll and I jumped into a taxi for the last 2mi of the day (shout-out to the lovely Star Taxis who managed to interpret my vague instructions "uhh... I'll meet you where the Coast Path meets the road", then agreed to let me as a sweaty mess into her new car and then to top it off donated the fare to my RNLI walk).Thank you to my Sponsors

This donation is conditional on you doing the walk in full Whyteleafe kit carrying Mac the Dog around your shoulders. Also, by the time you reach your destination you’ve written a song for your shanty group to sing titled hey Lino (it’s when he kicks the ball not when you look up). Have fun!

Good luck Dan ye absolute madman! 🏴 200 miles for the RNLI?! That’s no a walk, that’s a full-on Highland pilgrimage with blisters the size of haggis suppers. From North Devon tae Land’s End and roond tae Mousehole — ye’ll have calves like bagpipes and a face like a sunburnt haddock by the end of it. Mind and keep hydrated, dinnae trust any suspicious hills labelled “easy”, and if ye start hearing the seagulls speaking Scottish… it’s maybe time for a wee sit doon. Proud of ye pal — absolutely smashing it for a brilliant cause. The RNLI will be chuffed tae bits. Now get those boots oan and gie it laldy!
