Taking on the Reindeer Run challenge for RNLI lifesavers

RNLI supporters around the country will be donning their antlers and strapping up their hooves to run 24 miles – all to help keep RNLI volunteers safe this winter.

Freezing seas, numbing winds and sub-zero temperatures – would you fancy launching into that aboard a lifeboat? RNLI crews will be doing just that, battling the elements this winter to continue their mission to save every one.

Reindeer Runners will be raising money so they have everything they need to answer the call for help. Because no matter how harsh the winter weather might be, lifeboat crews will always launch to the rescue. I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me.

My Updates

Day 9

Thursday 11th Dec
Another beautiful day! So much easier to go out when the sun shines! At this time of year, it must be incredibly hard to go out in the pitch dark, torrential rain and howling gales to search for casualties in the middle of the ocean so I’ve really got it very easy! I’ve hit a PR over 2 miles today and I’m more than halfway through the challenge, so all good 🧡💙

Day 8

Wednesday 10th Dec
Walked over 4 miles this morning, so only managed a run of 1.7m this afternoon. Winds were strong today but at least no 40’ waves! Am over half the distance now - yay!!

Day 7

Monday 8th Dec
Phew! It’s sunny and warm today! Longest distance yet (2.23 miles) in 30 mins, including a long uphill warm-up walk. I almost enjoyed it (a natural runner I am not) 🤣 Thanks again for your support and sponsorship xx

Day 6

Saturday 6th Dec
Blimey! Bit soggy out there! HOWEVER, longest run yet at 2 miles. Not fast at 28 minutes but much improved on Day 1.

Day 5

Friday 5th Dec
Back to running - yay! Not fast obviously and several stops for nose-blowing but (according to Strava) my second fastest mile. Very cold today but dry - definitely no 30’ waves or howling gales. When I think I need to stop, thinking of the conditions the RNLI volunteers go out in keeps me pushing on. Thank you to everyone who has donated - it’s a great encouragement ☺️

Day 4

Thursday 4th Dec
Cold is an even better cold today, hence another walk. Weather was drizzly and cold but determined to get out if only for a single mile.

Day 3

Thursday 4th Dec
Had to walk today, courtesy of beastly cold. Makes you realise - again - how tough the volunteers are.

Day 2

Tuesday 2nd Dec
Well, it wasn’t raining! Or blowing a gale! 1.3 miles today, so a bit further than yesterday. Have realised how VERY out of practice I am at this running lark but I’m not out in the middle of the ocean in towering waves and the pitch dark. Such admiration for all the brave RNLI volunteers who go out in all weathers to save lives 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Day 1 - DONE!

Monday 1st Dec
First mile done in between showers and despite headwinds on the uphills! Only 23 to go …
