I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Days 27-28 - mileage target achieved

Wednesday 28th May
Had to walk in the rain yesterday which was a bit of a shock, and actually quite pleasant. 24 hours later, the sun has returned and somwhere, we surpassed the 60-mile in the month target. There's a few days left, so we will try and bump it up to 70 before we're done. It would be marvellous to make both targets, so If you'd like to, there's still time to make a contribution to this worthy cause. Thanks 😊

Days 18-26

Monday 26th May
Following a snail shaped walk today, we're homing in on our 60 mile target - just 2 to go! Cooler days mean we've been out a little longer and the local countryside has been thoroughly explored! Thanks to everyone who has supported us through donations.

Days 13-17

Sunday 18th May
It's still mostly very warm in the south. Since my walking partners are the dog years equivalents of a toddler and a senior citizen, shortish walks in the shade have been the order of the day. Kings and Tower Woods are lovely and yesterday, Marden Park (which is wooded) was a super find, with fabulous views. Past halfway in terms of miles and donations. Thank you.

Day 10-12

Monday 12th May
Saturday saw us on a suprisingly rural walk from South Croydon to Selsdon along the Vanguard Way. We walked another section of the same path around Chelsham and Farleigh today. We're a little bit down on the average mileage to make the 60 mile target. Entirely the dogs fault, it's been too hot. We will make it!

Days 7-9

Friday 9th May
Thanks to everyone who has donated. The dogs and I are still out and about, a long walk on the North Downs, with a few hills yesterday sandwiched between flatter walks at Kings Wood and Riddlesdown. The sun is out and it's all good!

Days 3-6

Tuesday 6th May
A couple of quieter days with the return from holiday and getting cleared up. On Sunday, a mile walk to Brentford Station after a fine win for the local football team was enjoyable.  Since then a bluebell stroll at Kings Wood and a hilly three miler around Happy Valley have kept me and the dogs busy!

Day 2

Friday 2nd May
A lovely stroll round Flamborough Head in East Yorkshire.  A bit twisty turny, in and outy as walking was combined with bird-spotting in this wonderful place for a rarity! Heading home for some, slightly different walking starting tomorrow.  Won't see the sea anyway!

Day 1

Thursday 1st May
A very gentle start on a very hot day. A stroll round the nature reserve at South Landing near Flamborough allowed for a bit of birding and a dip in the sea for Callie, our chocolate labrador pub. Fittingly, there was a visit to the South Landing RNLI for a photo opportunity in my smart new shirt, and the purchsse of much needed ice creams! 1.33 miles done, but the website rounds down!
