Taking on the Reindeer Run challenge for RNLI lifesavers

RNLI supporters around the country will be donning their antlers and strapping up their hooves to run 24 miles – all to help keep RNLI volunteers safe this winter.

Freezing seas, numbing winds and sub-zero temperatures – would you fancy launching into that aboard a lifeboat? RNLI crews will be doing just that, battling the elements this winter to continue their mission to save every one.

Reindeer Runners will be raising money so they have everything they need to answer the call for help. Because no matter how harsh the winter weather might be, lifeboat crews will always launch to the rescue. I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me.

Who I am

Wednesday 29th Oct
My name’s Jamie Wright — I’m a 22 year old 🇬🇧 amateur runner 🏃 and boulderer 🧗 from the Essex coast. A year ago, I was in a very different place. I used to smoke regularly, and I’ll be honest — I didn’t think much about my health back then. Running started out as a way to clear my head, but over time it became something much bigger. It gave me discipline, focus, and a sense of purpose I didn’t know I was missing.

When I quit smoking and laced up for my first run, it felt impossible. My lungs burned, my legs ached, and I nearly gave up after the first kilometre. But each run became a small victory — proof that I could change. Running quite literally helped save my life. It gave me back my energy, my confidence, and a deeper respect for what the human body can do when you push through pain and doubt.

That’s why I’m running 24 miles this December for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). These are the people who put their lives on the line every day to save others at sea — often in the worst conditions imaginable. Living by the coast, I’ve always had huge respect for them. They embody courage, teamwork, and sacrifice — the same values I’ve tried to build in myself through running.

Running 24 miles might not compare to what the RNLI crews face out on the waves, but it’s my way of giving something back. Every donation helps them train, equip, and prepare for the next emergency — so someone else gets a second chance, just like I did.
