Land, Sea, and Legacy: The Art of Margaret Law
Welcome to our fundraising page in memory of Margaret Law (1934-2023). Three years ago, Margaret passed away at the grand age of 89. She lived a full and vibrant life, defined by her family, her deep love for the Scottish coast, and a 50-year devotion to the craft of painting.
To honour her memory, her family is organising a special retrospective exhibition and sale of her artwork. Because Margaret loved the sea, and knew its unpredictable nature firsthand as a longtime sailor up the West Coast of Scotland,100% of the proceeds from the sale of her paintings and all donations made to this page will go directly to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
Margaret worked primarily in oils and watercolours. Her art career spanned over five decades of work and artistic growth as a vital part of the local Ayrshire and Scottish art scene. She was a regular, active member and leader within the Ayr painting communities, and regularly exhibited her work in juried national shows and annually in Edinburgh and Glasgow exhibitions.
The dramatic land and seascapes of the Scottish West Coast were her primary inspiration, though she also possessed a deep love for capturing florals and still lifes. Margaret painted from an authentic connection to her surroundings. Having spent decades sailing the West Coast, her brush captured the raw light, weather, and beauty of the Scottish coast, with a genuine sailor's eye and a self-taught mastery of colour.
We want viewers to experience the West Coast through the eyes of someone who loved it fiercely. Every painting represents a moment of Scottish beauty caught by a lifelong artist.
If you are local to Ayrshire or visiting the area, we would love for you to join us to celebrate her life and view her work in person. The exhibition will feature a large collection of both framed and unframed original pieces spanning her entire 50+ year career, all available for purchase.
Her artwork will be displayed at Alloway Village Hall, KA7 4PY
August 1st and 2nd 2026 from 10.30 to 16.00.
Free Entry, all are welcome.
If you cannot attend the exhibition in person but would still like to honour Margaret’s memory and support the incredible volunteer crews of the RNLI, please consider making a donation directly through this page. As a sailor, Margaret held immense respect and sympathy for the hardships and dangers faced by lifeboat crews. Your generosity ensures that those who volunteer to save lives at sea have the training and equipment they need to return home safely.
Thank you so much for your support,
