Taking on the Reindeer Run challenge for RNLI lifesavers

RNLI supporters around the country will be donning their antlers and strapping up their hooves to run 24 miles – all to help keep RNLI volunteers safe this winter.

Freezing seas, numbing winds and sub-zero temperatures – would you fancy launching into that aboard a lifeboat? RNLI crews will be doing just that, battling the elements this winter to continue their mission to save every one.

Reindeer Runners will be raising money so they have everything they need to answer the call for help. Because no matter how harsh the winter weather might be, lifeboat crews will always launch to the rescue. I’d be so grateful if you could sponsor me.

My RNLI Reindeer 24-Mile Challenge

Tuesday 25th Nov

This December, I’m doing something I never imagined I’d be able to say: I’m running 24 miles for the RNLI Reindeer Challenge. If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be lacing up my trainers and genuinely loving running, I would have laughed—but here we are. I’ve recently completed Couch to 5K, I’m now training towards my first 10K, and this festive challenge feels like a real, exciting milestone on that journey.

But this run isn’t just about fitness.

My father died unexpectedly in January this year, served as Chairman of the RNLI for South Somerset, after retiring from the Army. Dedicating years of his time to supporting crews, fundraising, and championing the lifesaving work the charity does every single day. And long before him, my great-grandfather a member of the RNLI crew in Eastbourne—a role that requires not only immense bravery, but leadership, seamanship, and the kind of calm courage most of us can only aspire to.

The RNLI has saved thousands of lives since its beginnings, and it continues to be an incredible institution powered by volunteers and supported by donations. Their crews head out in conditions many of us would never dare to face, putting themselves on the line for complete strangers. It’s humbling, inspiring, and something I feel proud to support in any way I can.

So this December, when I head out into the cold to tick off those miles, I’ll be thinking of my family’s connection to the sea, to service, and to the RNLI mission. Every step feels like a tribute—not just to the people who came before me, but to the crews who continue their work today.

Every little helps, and if you’re able to support me or the RNLI, it would mean the world. Whether it's sharing the challenge, donating, or simply cheering me on—you’ll be making a real difference.

Here’s to running, to learning what we’re capable of, and to keeping our coasts safe.
