I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers
This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.
During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.
By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.
Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Days 30 and 31
Sunday 1st Jun Day 30 was a visit to St David's and Haverfordwest. I walked down to the Cathedral and also walked around 2 sides of the cloisters before having a coffee after a steep uphill walk to the town.
Day 29 at the Welsh Botanical Gardens
Thursday 29th May I did my usual morning walk and after breakfast I got on the coach for the Botanical gardens. The weather was extremely overcast with intermittent drizzle but it didn't stop me from covering 6.77 miles as well as the 1.18 miles before breakfast.
Day 28
Wednesday 28th May Today has been split into 3 separate walks. The early morning 1.04 miles, the lunchtime 3.22 miles and the afternoon 1.6 miles. Some walking was in the town but I enjoyed a slow walk on soft sand and had a paddle to cool off my hot feet.
Day 26
Monday 26th May A coastal path walk from Saundersfoot to Tenby and a visit to Tenby RNLI boathouse and shop. A pleasing 8.24 miles today taking me to 80 miles completed. I will try to get to 93 miles for the end of the month Share
Day 23
Friday 23rd May A late start today as I had to trim the shrubs in the front garden and between myself and my neighbour ( who isn't there long term so get garden is wild). Having done that I cleared up and decided to attempt to walk the opposite way along the canal. I followed the diverted footpath but never found the canal. I knew where I was and at almost 3 miles from home I decided to head for the bus on the dual carriageway (there's no footpath alongside so impossible to walk safely). However I still achieved 3.51 miles in 66 mins and another 8,300 steps. An enjoyable exploration but not where I wanted to go. I will try again another time. Share
Day 22
Thursday 22nd May An unexpected 1.12 miles whilst waiting for my neighbour to see the doctor and get a prescription. I had intended a day off today but once up and out of the house I couldn't just sit waiting. I'm now at 65.54 miles,20 hrs 59 mins and 154,450 steps Share
Day 21
Wednesday 21st May Just a short walk today as I had been gardening earlier and my legs were feeling heavy. I wanted to get out to look at the progress of listed building which was partly dismantled prior to an enforcement notice. The circular walk was 1.18 miles, 2,612 steps and 22 minutes. It's not far but still achieving the 1 mile challenge, although I have already exceeded the 31 miles. With today I'm at 64.42 miles Share
Day 20
Tuesday 20th May I set off to do a short circular walk alongside the Grantham canal. My short walk turned into 4.64 miles and 10,464 steps. This was due to me enjoying the scenery and carrying on alongside the canal until I reached the river Trent. It was also further than planned due to having missed a bus and no intention of sitting around for 14 minutes. I walked instead, another 5 stops closer to home. Share
Day 19
Monday 19th May A day wandering around . I started off feeling lethargic but pushed through. After the first mile I started feeling easier and was delighted to reach 3 miles. My intention was for me to do the minimum 1 mile, but the fact that I have a sponsor who has pledged to pay £1 for each walk is giving me the incentive to keep going. Share
A short walk for day 18
Sunday 18th May I've got quite a few things happening today but managed to squeeze in the time for another mile. I'm now at 55 miles in total Share
Day 17
Saturday 17th May I'm still keeping going with my walking although I reached 31 miles in the first 9 days.
Day 9
Friday 9th May Not a great distance but considering it was walking to collect raffle and bric a brac ready for our RNLI Spring fair tomorrow it is more than I was expecting.

Day 8
Thursday 8th May I walked into West Bridgford to collect a prescription and took a detour on my way home as I had heard that the newly opened WW2 airaid shelter was open today. I managed to arrive as they'd just locked the door, however they reopened the door and let me have a look around. Wow I didn't realise how long it was. I then returned home and had completed 3.28 miles. I'm now at 30.82 recorded miles in 9 hrs 51 mins.Total steps 72,280. Share

Day 7
Wednesday 7th May I met up with a friend in Radcliffe on Trent and decided to walk back via the gated road. I had a great time seeing llamas, horses , various birds, and 1 rapidly running young rabbit.
Day 6
Tuesday 6th May After a day's break yesterday watching the VE day celebrations I resumed walking again today. I walked 0.4 miles before catching the bus and tram to Beeston to meet a friend. After a natter and a chat my friend said she would accompany me with my walk to the Nottingham university campus and my walk alongside the lake. I was upset to find that my GPS signal had been lost and I had been walking for 50 minutes which is about 2 ½ miles. However I restarted the app and recorded a mile until we got to the tram. I caught the bus and got off a few stops earlier than usual to up my recorded distance walked. I've done another 3.12 miles today taking my total distance to 21.12 miles. Share

Day 4
Sunday 4th May Only a short walk today but still another 2.02 miles, 5386 steps and 36½ minutes. My running total now stands at 18.12 miles,42,298 steps in 5 hours 48 minutes.

Day 3
Saturday 3rd May I didn't intend doing any more than a couple of miles but as it was pleasant and I felt ok I carried on. I did 4.09 miles, 9,302 steps in 79 minutes.

Day 2
Friday 2nd May Another 2 miles added while waiting for my prescription from the oncology department at the City hospital. Why sit inside waiting when I can go outside and add a bit extra distance Share

Day 1
Thursday 1st May I've started my walking today and done 10 miles. I did home to the watersports centre and emptied the box in Desperate Measures. I then walked to the bank in West Bridgford. Having paid in the money I did the reverse journey to deliver the receipt and then make my way home. The Strava app logged 10.01 miles averaging 3mph. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
