I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

Quick Intro

Saturday 19th Apr
Hi to anyone who's reading!

As my first blog post, I thought I'd just give a quick intro as to why I'm taking on the Mayday Mile. After becoming an RNLI volunteer just under 3 years ago, my eyes have been opened to a whole new world I didn't know existed. We often forget that we have a 4th emergency service in the Coastguard, and it's amazing how often they call upon our everyday volunteers within the RNLI to assist and undertake in their rescue efforts. The RNLI's mission is to save lives at sea. Whether this is through their prevention programmes such as float to live, lifeguards on beaches, or the lifeboats which we all know and love, the RNLI is there to help people along our coast when they need it most.

The RNLI runs solely via donations, so this May I'll be doing my bit to keep our lifeboats working, and our coastline that bit safer as the year warms up. My birthday happens to be at the very start of May, so this year I'm asking for donations instead of gifts, in the hope that I can raise as much as possible. I'm also going on holiday towards the end of May, so there will be no days off as complete my mile in the heat of Egypt. Although, running along a sunny beach does seem quite apt! On that note, I am going to try my best to run a mile everyday, although no promises, as I'm not built as a runner (I hated cross country at school!) and I dont really run at all now, so it wouldn't surprise me if I need an odd day to take it easy on the ankles and walk it instead! I'll be doing my level best to make each day a run though, and I promise, it will be a mile a day, come what may!

Thanks for taking the time to view my page, and thank you if you've donated, it's really appreciated. I'll be back on day one!
