How your support helped the RNLI in 2024

437 Lives saved

25,327 People aided by lifeboat crews and lifeguards

9,141 Lifeboat launches

I’m taking on the Mayday Mile Challenge to support RNLI volunteers

This May, I’m completing a mile-a-day challenge to help RNLI crews save lives at sea.

During summertime, more people flock to beaches and coastal towns to make the most of everything they have to offer – from glorious sunshine to adventurous watersports. And as temperatures rise, so do calls from people in trouble in the water.

By answering this Mayday call and giving a gift today, you can make a real, lifesaving difference. Your kindness will help give volunteers everything they need to launch to the rescue, and make sure they’re ready to face their busiest season.

Will you sponsor my RNLI Mayday Mile Challenge and support the courageous crews?

My Updates

Walked to Beavers

Monday 11th May
Seemed quite appropriate as I got involved in Scouts through Andrew. He was Cub Leader after the pandemic and needed a female helper to be able to open. I said I would do it "until he found someone else". And here I am, almost five years later, still here, more involved than ever!

It was a lovely walk this evening. The wind had died down so it wasn't too cold!

All these miles

Wednesday 6th May
But the evening ones I was just driving slowly 😂

Timing

Tuesday 5th May
A couple of people have mentioned that my times are quite long for the distance I do. Partly, I am old! But also because I usually combine my walks with errands. So today, I went to a couple of shops as I went. I am using the "move minutes" which should take account of browsing, queueing etc. But, as previously stated, I am old!

Walk in the park

Sunday 3rd May
Today is the first day that I will just have to walk. No plans which include a walk so planning to find a route through the local park. Probably in the rain! But first, housework. (I wonder if those steps count?!)

Hope it counts!

Friday 1st May
Today I did my first official mile. It was a stroll (some of it at tourist pace!) With stops, and even a sit down, while I was doing it! Hope that counts 🤞

Technology!

Wednesday 29th Apr
Looks like I will have to add my miles manually. I did a test today. I have an app called Betterpoints (linked to going green in West Yorkshire) and Google Fit. My problem is that they give different distances! Tonight I used Fit as it gives steps and minutes which the web page asks for. Will see how it goes!

Nearly time!

Saturday 25th Apr
It's almost May! Hoping the weather stays good for me. Some of my miles will be in Paris when I make my annual pilgrimage to Roland Garros but I will be sure to keep my steps up. Even if I have to do laps of the Eurostar terminal!

New target

Monday 6th Apr
Thank you for all your generous donations. I have updated my fundraising target!
